  • NGD - Strat!

I traded in my metallic black RR1 on a new Fender Select Strat today. The RR1 was languishing on the stand and I needed a little more versatility in the herd so I grabbed the Strat and one of the new Fender Excelsior amps today.

The guitar is cool. Compound radius, locking tuners, Schaller straplocks, slightly contoured heel, nice wood, and a beauty tweed G&G hardcase.

Without further ado, here's the porn...

I'm not averse to this eventually, but they always have a humbucker in the bridge position and I wanted one that goes all icepick when I start doing the weedly-weedly up high. But I can see replacing my DKMGT with a Jackson Strat one day.

In the meantime I'm loving the tones out of this. The only thing I don't currently dig is the cleared over fingerboard. I may have to lower my potential resale value and hit it up with some scotchbrite or something to make it a little more satin feeling. The back is fine but the fingerboard itself gets a little grippy with the fingertips.

The body is actually a 3 piece, which is hard to tell without really looking for the joins. The veneer flame on the top seems a little thicker than my RR1T. I think it's like 1/16th vs 1/32nd kind of thing.

That's a sweet looking guitar! Nice flame all over on that one... both the body and the neck.

That's why I love my MIJ Strat. It has this satin clear coat that just feels amazing.

My two best sounding and playing Charvels are 3 piece bodies. No shame!

My best playing Charvel is actually a Stratocaster!

Nice one! Compound radius, you say? About time they did that! The only thing I don't like about my Double Fat Strat is the 9.5" radius. I did have a Deluxe Players MIM Strat with 12" radius that I probably should have kept, but it only had 21 frets.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

very nice!!! being a fender fan, i have to say those selects are interesting....

toe - what is it about the 9.5 radius you don't like? i have never had a problem with it - i actually prefer it to a compound....
