Recent NGD's...Ibanez content!

About time for an update...

I'm really loving the Ibanez S-series guitars. I'm typically not a fan of Ibby because I don't get a big bang out of basswood. I really like my RGD's though, but I think it may have something to do with heavy gauge strings and low tunings. Anyway, the S-bodies are mahogany, so they sound a lot bigger than the RG's in my opinion, and are pretty damn comfortable. Anyway, here's the pics:

That first s-series looks killer! What is that top?

I didn't realize they had a line that was mahogany. The other guitarist I play in a band has a bunch of ibbys, but they are all basswood.

Love the finish on the top one, it's like a swirl, but with stain instead of paint. The only thing I don't like about those S series is the huge chunk of plastic around the switch. If they inlaid a piece of black anodized aluminum into the body it would look so much nicer.

They call it "Ebony Swirl". It's a veneer over mahogany.

There are actually more mahogany-bodied Ibanez around than I realized. The S series, RGA, the Micks, some o the Premiums and Prestiges. I'm more impressed now.

I agree - I'm not a fan of the switch plate either.

Yes...and I regret it every day.

That said, Head is playing some kind of custom RGD now, so that's kinda what turned me on to those, and they are arguably my favorite guitars in my quiver.

A bit of an update...

Sold a few, bought a few.

The S2170 has moved on already. So has the Ebony Les Paul. The Gold Top is for sale. I picked up another Ibanez Apex and another Ibanez S7320, and got a good deal on an Ibanez RG7620 today. Got a cool LTD EC-1000T too - pretty happy with that! if anyone's looking for a killer Gold Top LP, send them my way!
