  • Ngd!!!! Woot....

Just scored this one last night. Mint condition. I would say it was rarely if ever played. 1994 Washburn Mercury II MG-701 VFD. Washburn made these from 1994 to 1996. Sycamore flame top, solid alder body, 1pc maple neck, Wilkenson recessed trem, locking Schaller tuners, H/S/S
5 way switch. Beautiful wine red body on sides and back with the flamed veneer top. 24 super jumbo frets. Fit and finish is beautiful. Cut away on the back so upper fret access is effortless. Neck is a slim. Maybe like a C.
I got this for a song. Original owner didn't know how to set it up and put heavy strings on it so the bridge was cocked way forward and the strings were 1/4" off of the neck. He thought something was wrong with it and never actually got it to be in playable condition. I cleaned it up, put new strings on it and did a basic and I mean BASIC set up. Plays and sounds like a dream. Amazing guitar for a Korean model from 1994. This was when Grover Jackson was designing the guitars. That makes 3 Washburns for me. 1994 Nuno N2, 1991 KC-90 and now the 1994 MG701 VFD. Jeez... where is my endorsement??

BTW... with the Wilkenson and the locking Schaller tuners this guitar REALLY stays in tune. Its very precise when you tune it too.

And, that's really good to know, I'm having one of my fenders set up this way. Nice to know it'll hold a tune!

NICE, i was never a big fan of washburns take on the superstrat shape. just like the kramers melted strat shape, just never looked right to me. is that from around the time Grover was working for them? reminds me of the steve stevens washburns.

JG did I sell you that old 90 of mine? Tealish green crackle? That thing had a great tone when assembled but i harvested some stuff off it and never finished it again.

Yes you did. $75.00. I put a Gibson 500T in the bridge, I ripped out both single coils, I blocked the trem and I put in 1 volume and a pushbutton kill switch for those Steve Stevens moments. I put a name on it. Its called HIGHFLOW. Its a large white graphic that runs across the front of the guitar. Its my main player. I jam with guys who play $2000+ guitars. I had one guy who wouldn't even play it because of what it is. With the 500T, it sounds awesome. I love the guitar. Its almost the focal point of my band. Everybody knows the green crackle HIGHFLOW guitar.

HA thats awesome! So glad to see it go to good use. That was a great guitar and had awesome tone...best thing about those finishes for giggin you can beat the shit out of em and if it buggs ya 15 minutes with a sharpie and some clear nail polish makes it go away.
