NAD (Anderson!)

I know I know - most of you will skip straight over this when you see what it is, but I don't care I've wanted to try an Anderson for ages but finding one with the right specs eluded me, so I ordered this in mid-June, and it was with Matt two days short of 4 months later. Now that's what I'm talking about in an end to end process for a custom guitar - are you listening Jackson?







I've only had it for a day or so, but I have to say I'm very very impressed. The build quality is absolutely top notch and the Anderson pickups sound great which is something of a relief because I've never tried them before (not that it's a big deal to swap them, but I'd rather not have to!). The finish is absolutely superb - the burst is very nicely faded and the clear is like a mirror. As you might know, Anderson use a new 'wedgie' neck join which looks kind of funky and has an unfortunate name, but I tell you, this thing sustains for ages. It has the Buzz Feiten tuning system on it, but I've not played it enough to really comment on that yet - I will say that so far it's not something that's changed my world.

I played an Anderson at Gelb music in redwood city a few years ago. Probably one of the best guitars I have ever played. If I had the scratch for it, I would have bought it in a second. Nice score man.

Thanks for the comments guys. I've wanted to try an Anderson for years, back since Hammett used one in 88 or so then through Vivian Campbell's guitars, but I've never seen one in real life until I opened the case on this one. I had some money sitting in my PP account, and just figured I should go ahead and order one to my specs, rather than hoping I'd find something close. In honesty, I was torn between ordering an Anderson and a Suhr, but I'm contrary and everyone is playing Suhrs right now so...

BTW, you never told me what that small back cover is for?

I haven't taken it off, but according to Matt, it's a phase switch for the pickups. I guess it's not under the guard because you then have the option to change it easily.

Yeah, I'd probably get a Suhr instead. Mainly because they use the Gotoh and I love their paint drip finishes.

Wow...I absolutely love it!!! Anderson is my favorite builder for a reason...his attention to detail is second to none. My two mian live guitars now are an Anderson and a Suhr, but the Anderson remains my #1.

I used to ogle the pics of Anderson guitars in the ProAudio Music Supplies catalog back in the late 80s/early 90s. All the Jacksons, Ibanezes, etc. were really cool and I wanted them too, but the Andersons just looked a cut above. They had features & woods that weren't on the production models from other makers - things like Ultrasonic pickups, which I'd only read about in the guitar mags. Never did get to play one and never felt like my chops were worthy to anyway. They seemed like they were for heavy hitting studio cats.
