Nice dude, you are sick, heh. Just looking at pics of those it's like you can see the tone. Love the bridge idea.
I also like the idea of the dye and shellac finish. Do the bodies have a slightly rough but at the same time slippery feel to them?
Seems like you can see what they feel and sound like. Like flicking the body with your finger has a nice tap tone.

Grats! Those are new additions? Those are gorgeous. Now I don't feel so bad.

Yes, you can feel the wood grain... it's mostly smooth-ish, but every here and there you can feel the grain. You can't use a microfiber cloth, it would catch on all the little tiny protrusions. Yes, so it is a little rough (yeah that does kinda contradict the first sentence), but you can't see sanding marks anywhere. If you look close enough to all the edges, you can tell they were filed because of the inconsistencies of making a curved and beveled edge by hand. You can't really tell on the body edge, because that is really consistent... not CNC consistent though. You can definitely see it on the beveled edges of the tummy cut and neck heel. It's very tonally responsive to taps.

If you're into hand fabrication and woodworking, it's really an artistic creation.

If it makes you feel any better, Xeno, I just got my second Ibanez Apex 1 Custom, and have a second Ibanez S7320 coming in tomorrow. Those go with my two RGD2120z's and my two Les Paul Trad Pros. What's better than one?

Well, I set the first one up the way I wanted. The high E will go below (top of fret to top of string) 1mm @ 24th without fretting out or buzzing anywhere. I have it set at just under 2mm @ 24th. The neck on the new one is slightly thinner I think. The from-the-factory setup was a bit lower with it too, so I assume that the neck is just as nice, perhaps a little nicer. I think the file work is a touch better on my first one. Judging by the filework, it's pretty obvious they were made by two different luthiers.

Those high-end Ibanez are just awesome. What finishes are your Apexes? Did you get one of the textured ones?

i got 1 of them, it took me years to find the 2nd, then the last 2 kind just kind of popped up on ebay 1 right after the other, and no one bid on them. I was always more of a Bich fan until i got the shorthorn shape mockingbird, IMO they balance and position much better than standard mocks which are horrible.

Funny i had a talk with a local luthier when i was having a guitar refin'd, he said thats the biggest issue w having auto painters do guitars, the thick coats of paint can kill the resonance and kill the tone. he said thicker finishes will dull certain frequencies too. i think thats why my jacksons sound so much tighter and EQ flat, compared to my other guitars. Old BCR finishes were very thin, and their grain filler was applied very thin or just crap.

Yeah, well Bernie Sr always had an odd liking for guitars that play amazingly well while sitting but don't balance properly while standing. I think he preferred playing with guitars on his lap. My Stealth is exactly like that. For sitting, it's as comfortable as a warrior and almost identical neck positioning. You just rest the upper back horn on one leg, the lower front horn on the other and the balance and weight distribution are spot-on. Put a strap on it and it's pointed at the ground.

Yeah, I bet there's a whole lot of truth to that. These M8M's have amazing acoustic tone... bright, full and well balanced across the whole neck in both volume and tone without any dead spots. I've never played an instrument quite like it, but it's one of those things people will either love or hate. One hum, no fret markers, and a subdued color and finish... so it doesn't really look fancy. All of the fancy is in the craftmanship. Fretwork is out of this world.

Indeed! Mine are both the "Biker Black" models, and both are '07 models. I'd like to find one of the vintage burst ones at some point, but they just don't pop up very often, and when they do, they're $2K. The two K7's I had we're equally nice though.

If it was a problem we'd be going to meetings.
