  • Strat 62ish

Just finished this one. Been wanting to build up an old school Strat for a while. One piece ash body.
Please excuse the pics. still trying to get the hang of a new camera. I hate auto non-focus.

The prudes may snub them, but I don't care.
    I dont need furniture.
If its tough, shreds, and screams, Its all good.
If it gets jacked, I'll get another one.
    And rock that sucker.

Looks real nice and has tons of mojo but the pickguard looks way too shiny and new compared to the body.
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

I wouldn't sweat the p/g. Neckplate is too shiny, no pitting on the jack plate. Doesn't matter. Unless you're going for period-correct, never been modded, old working strats often have swapped/newer parts

What is this 'auto non-focus'? do you mean auto-focus? yeah, that can be irritating at times especially in dark places and with flash. Mount the camera on a hard-surface and use the timer.

If you want the pick-guard and plate to look "worn" throw then on the highway and after a few cars have run over them, pick 'em up in the night.

or rub them on your taint. the combination of bacteria, sweat, stank & stubble will help with the aging process

When I started this project I really wasn't planning to go with a relic look. I just wanted a really nice vintage spec Strat.

                Secs it had to have:
7 1/4 radius, slab rosewood board, truss adjust at heel.
                1 11/16 bone nut
Kluson style tuners, vintage string tree
                ash body, SSS rout
vintage spec USA trem with USA screw and saddle spacing, and block that string end balls are all the way at the bottom of block.
vintage spec staggered pole alnico wax potted pups with cloth wire.
CTS pots, CRL switch, Switchcraft jack.

The neck is off a 91 Japan ST62. I did a fret dress and built up a new bone nut.
The ST62 that the neck came off of, has a black body with naturally aged white guard, knobs, pup covers. I just couldn't live with the Clapton thing going on, the 3 piece body, and Japan trem screw spacing.

It just turned out that I found this 1 piece body and couldn't pass it up.
The pics don't do it justice. It has nitro checking all over it. SSS with worm rout.
I havnt weighed it yet, but the guitar is light weight.

I like black guards, so I bought a new Fender guard and accessory kit. The guard is already full of pick swirl and is wearing pretty quick.
I didn't like the bright white lettering on the knobs, so I used some dye on them.

Thanks. I'll try the camera advice.
Not sure about the relic idea. I'll get my ass run over around here.
Then I wont be able to try the taint idea.

Ha ha! I was only joking! I have no idea how to relic something.

For starters, this is a great investment. It costs about $15 for the entry model, called Gorillapod and its a great investment for getting steady shots. its ultra flexible and the camera can be mounted on/to almost any surface.

I found my old tripod, and the timer helped a lot.
                        A little better pics.

                          Mmmm.
I GAS for a good blonde tele too.
I used to play one (not mine), a '73 and still want something like it.
No frills, just a comfortable axe.

I can't see who made yours, what is it?

The Tele is a late 80s Fernandes TE 1S.
