  • Revamped, more evil SG Diablo

Swapped out the chrome hardware on my SG Diablo for black. The stock chrome OFR was pissing me off due to minor little issues so it had to go anyway. Had a new-ish black OFR lying around so, I snagged new posts, a brass big block and presto- improved performance and aesthetics. A gift card to the local music store provided me with the Grover tuners and some black knurled knobs. Now she looks just flat out menacing...

    The former look:

I picked up a regular black SG from the Sam Ash clearance. I'm digging mine too. What pickups are in your Diablo?

Stock burstbuckers, REALLY liked them before the revamp. Now? Not so much. Not sure what changed...

Check your action. I have a 1998 SG as well (same 490R/498T as the black one) and I fucked it up by going too low on the action. Makes it sound thin and tinny with no balls. Also, I used Boomers instead of the Nickel Gibson strings, but I'm not sure if that was an issue.

The new black one I have has somewhat high action, but it sounds good like the 1998 used to sound.

Good to know. That may be the culprit. I also threw on some new cobalt EB Slinkys so that could also be a factor.

although I am a chrome-liker its good in black.surprised to see a floyd on an sg.The Diablo sg should be a controversial issue for the Gibson fans.

                    I suppose that's better than being a chrome-licker.

I've always loved SG's but am a self-confessed Floyd junkie. Can't own an electric guitar (unless it's an acoustic/electric) without a Floyd. Period. Always wanted to have an SG with a Floyd. Then I saw Tony Iommi playing a white SG w/ a Floyd, I just about shit. So, when Gibson announced they were putting out a Floyded SG Diablo, I had to go change my drawers again 'cuz I blew a load in them.

I prefer the chrome, since it reminds me of Iommi's old John Birch SG, but it's cool either way. I may have to look into one of those, since I've been wanting a 24.75" guitar w/Floyd.
