I'm finally getting back to my projects - pointy fans might like this one.
You are reminding me that I need to at least source wood for my 7/8 body Bich.
Built the prototype out of oak fully planning to make a slim maple version.
That was in 1988!
Doing the bevel on oak was a challenge as well.
It likes to sliver, so it's all abrasive work.

I can imagine oak would be a bich to work with (pun intended). Figured maple sucks to work with too. Planing, and jointing it is tough to do without getting tear-out.
I might actually build a Bich at some point myself. I had 3 NJ Biches at one point, and always wanted a vintage USA made Bich, but they go for big bucks.

It isn't just about the price, it was about them getting it "almost right".
The body size was just a little too big for such a radical shape, and yet not quite as radical as the others, like the Warlock.
And too thick as well.
I know it's heresy but I like the bolt-on neck of my homebrew as well.
I understand and fully (deeply) appreciate the neck though such as yours, but I change my mind to much to be stuck
with one neck option.
Plus...I'm a much better amp builder than luthier!

I'm guessing you're not a big guy? I'm 6' 2" and there are lots of guitars that look silly on me because they seem too small. Maybe that's why I've always felt the Bich was the perfect size as it was. I would still own at least one of the NJs if they were neck thru, but in general I don't really get along with bolt-on necks.
By the way, the Urchin is very similar in size to a Bich, so you probably wouldn't like it either. The body thickness on mine is 1-11/16"

No, 6' even here, and lanky as a zombie.
Knuckle dragger length arms.
It isn't the actual size, it was about the proportion.
The Bich looks like it has a fat azz!
Might have been the 10-string issue, and they kept the same template for the 6 string version I guess.
I'm an old fart and still vividly recall seeing the Bich in GP magazine for the first time in the 70's.
The BC Rich guitars reminded me of another axe I liked the looks of...Alembic basses.

Yes indeed, the Bich does have a wide ass!!
Believe it or not, I'm doing a lot of the neck and heel shaping on my oscillating spindle sander, and yes it's a pain in the ass. I would like to get an air powered hand held spindle sander. That would make things a lot easier.

I'm still primarily a rasp and microplanes guy for necks, but Grizzly has this http://www.grizzly.com/products/4-x-...-Sanders/H2881 and you can chuck it into your drill and go. I do something similar, but with a stew mac robo sanding drum; it's got a rubber bearing on the end, so I'll chuck it into the drill and hold the bearing with my other hand. works well for me. and if you haven't tried microplanes yet, give 'em a shot.

I probably do about 60% rasp, and 40% sander. I really need to invest in some decent rasps though. The Dragon rasps from Stewmac are $50 each, but I'm sure they do a far better job than my shitty Chinese $5 hardware store rasp. That drum sander from Grizzly is exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm pretty sure I could build the exact same thing for $20. I've never tried a microplane. Do they have them at Stewmac?
