I have a 1987 in Heather Pearl. I believe all the 1987 RG550's have maple necks. Great guitar. I bought it in 1987.

Agreed that they are great guitars. I've been looking for a dayglo orange RG750 myself, but they are much harder to find, and more $.

Hey again guys, I was going to post this in the tech section but I figured since it still pertains to this guitar I should keep it here. Anyways, so I went ahead and got the guitar (87 ibanez Rg550). It feels great, is in awesome condition overall and I just love it. My new question is about the bridge. I took it in for a setup and the guy mentioned something about there being a screw I should tighten (or perhaps loosen, I can't exactly remember) before I start wailing on it. Failure to do so could result in completely breaking the thing, and it would be hard to find a replacement with it being an original edge system he told me. I most definitely should've asked for some more clarification but with the rush of everything more questions came up and I forgot about it entirely. Can anybody please provide me with some insight and maybe pictures to help me out. I'm just confused as to what I should do and I certainly don't want to damage anything. Thank you very much

Some Edge trems have locking stud inserts.
This keeps the trem studs from moving once they have been adjusted. Trying to adjust without unlocking them can strip or crack them.
Your guitar may or may not have them.
My 1987 RG560 has the same trem as your RG550, and it does not have the stud locks.
Here is some info about them.
