Looks pretty cool. I don't know too much about early sechter,actually. They were a custom shop, right?

Yes sir Tom Anderson involvement as well. Have been talking to Tom a bit today on this one trying to get history theres some strange things with this one.

1 piece koa body, 1 piece Brazilian rosewood neck, maple skunk and dots, it's a brick and doesn't sound like a strat but its a killer.

quality wise yes, feel these are much different, or at least mine is. its a big round neck, not sure of the radius but its much tighter than a charvel. not sure if mine was assembled or just an early kit, everything is schecter logo'd, and the tuners were changed. the 3 mini's are on/off/on series parallel, those pup are killer. with the woods it almost sounds like a LP w singles....I dont have the balls to do it but i would love to have the fret board flattened a bit. and mine has the pressed SCHECTER stamp not burned.

my guitar teacher had one around '86. It was the first time I'd ever heard of the brand (having just started playing). It was purty and just smacked of class. Everybody seemed to know about Fender, but this Strat just seemed to be.... better

He was a fairly young guy, playing jazz on an Ibanez George Benson model through a wicker grill Boogie combo & this gorgeous Schecter seemed right at home in that company. As I became more aware of other brands, the "premium" strats by makers like Valley Arts that the fusion guys preferred in the 80s always reminded of my teacher's Schecter

I talked to Anderson today and he said it was one of the last of the era. He said he wasnt surprised about the burn throughs and remembers some that way. It sounds great really a unique sound. Mine is poplar body, with a maple/rosewood neck. Not as high class as some of them but cool in its own way. I took it as a trade towards a charvel I had. I will likely sell this thing or make a cool trade as the neck is way way way to big for my midget like hands. The neck is very baseball bat like and i just cannot play the thing. I need me some wizard/professional sized profiles lol.

I likely will be underwater on this one as I have 0 idea what its worth but i gave a ton for it just because I was fairly certain of its anderson connection. I did the trade long distance and wouldnt have had i played it in person. Not to mention it had to have been under a bed for a decade or so lol. the strings discintegrated lol

the value on these are all over the place, Ive seen plain janes go in the 500-800 range, while ones with much nicer woods go as high as $2500. Much like the old Charvel MFG, they offered many exotic wood options and those seem to bring a lot more $. Also if it doesnt have a skunk stripe its NOT a Van Nuys. are you sure thats poplar, looks more like alder. poplar is usually more yellow, green or purplish.

Anderson told me it was poplar so thats what i went with.

It is Van Nuys and I have the verification from Anderson as well via email. Its also dated on the neck and pocket both of which predate the changes. I am into it for more than ill likely get out of it but it was worth it for the shot just to save it and mess with it lol. For me its not always about the cash its about touching and possibly saving a piece of cool gear lol

oh and im fairly certain it has a skunk strip if ya look at the pics lol. All these shots were before clean up and set up i put way more into this than ill ever get out i may throw it out there on the bay and just do a best offer deal. Im in no hurry to move it just want something I can play instead. I was duped by being told the neck profile was different than it is.

i hear ya, i don't play mine that much as im not a fan of rounded fret boards, but its my only guitar thats close to a fender strat so it has its place for me.

Judging by the large pole pieces those are Tom's pick ups too.
I have an early TA humbucker in my 86 Jackson pointy.
Love the early Schecters.
