        • Yeah thanks dudes, Its not that hard to play up to the 30th fret, anything beyond that it gets rather hard. I will put a hotrail in it later and try that for some fun.

The paulownia is incredible soft. For example on i drilled the cavity to pickup hole by just rotating the bit with my hands. No drill needed. Its softer than basswood by far. I may have to get some thread inserts or something because Screws damage the wood to much when you fasten to it.

          • Awesome work! Can't wait to see and hear it when you're done!
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

Yeah i was thinking if all goes well i would take it around to a few fiends places and do a montage clip of different people playing it.
The biggest hurdle will be working out a sufficient way to palm mute this thing. Because it has so little room between the bridge and the fretboard. I find myself merging over and picking over the 30 to 36th fret area.

              • Looking good man, only comment is that the shape makes it look like the guitar is upside down, but i guess this is similar to the Carvin V220 style

as far as palm muting goes, perhaps you could slant the end of the fret board so that on the bass side you stop at about the 30th fret? might give more room?

Originally i wanted it the other way but as a few people pointed out that would mean a very unbalanced instrument. at least this way with a strap on it will balance and also you can play it sitting down no worries. Its a compromise similar to a bass guitar as the neck is extra long.
The truss rod goes right to the edge of the fretboard. Its a minor issue and with some practice it should be fine.

thanks Ralph, Ps we share the same name haha. Actually i am a Raph opppps

                        • Looks really cool. How about finding a big Fosters poster, of just painting a Fosters or equivalent label on it.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

                              • Ok it's been a little while hasn't it. Never mind better late than never right?

So i made a control plate out of plastic and i have veneered some timber onto it. I have made some pickup mounts so they can be direct mounted directly into the soft wood without the risk of them pulling out. I will post a picture tomorrow of the plate.

After much hesitation and personal conflict I have settled on a look and theme for the guitar. Its much easier for me to go the easy way out and do something that looks dark and metal but i am pushing myself to try something more bright and eye catching.

This is the mocked up colour scheme i will be doing. If it turns out a bit narf i will just paint it in a solid colour. Front and back plus neck will be like this.

                                Work begins tomorrow
