New axe on the way, need p'up ideas ;)

Got a BC Rich Gunslinger coming in a couple of weeks, it's the later model with Duncan Designed p'ups. I've never had
these before but am assuming they'll suck balls (which could be good for me ).

One option is an EMG because I love them & don't have a basswood axe with them in it yet, so here's an opportunity.

But I'm keen to know what anyone else thinks regarding passives. It needs to be tight down low (every guys dream, right?)
but I have no other specific requests other than I play mostly melodic power metal, so no muddy rumbles.

I have a set of duncan designed pups that came on a schecter revenger. There fucking awesome.

I play power metal also, I would go for a dimarzio super 3 and a air norton. Or if you want something really ballsy see if you can find a wilburn metalbucker there rad but becoming rarer,

I had a Gunslinger a couple years ago, and it had a Tone Zone in it that sounded great. Body was alder, though.

Duncan Invader, Custom and I have said this a couple times Blackouts....great output and organic sounding.

I might get the guitar first to see how the stock one sounds. It's not like I need a swap immediately, got plaenty of other guitars.

I like Dimarzio so the Tone Zone has been on my mind, not much of a SD fan so far. If I go active i'l just put an 81 in there & be done with it.

Ive played a few guitars with the Invader in it & the difference between them all is such that you never know what you're going to get. Muddy filth in one, tight but no arse end in the next, 'Arion Metal Plus' overdrive pedal buzz from another. A friend offered to give me his Invader from his MII which sounded good in that............no thanks.

I just threw a set of Dimarzio Dominions in a guitar & ferkin' love 'em. Highly recommend.

The TZ is good'un. Got a TZ/Evo set in an alder guitar. Don't know what they sound like in basswood though

tone zone and/or duncan sh5...both sound great in basswood and really let the midrange breathe...d.m.

personally, I have always used dimarzio pickups in basswood guitars. they just seem to work well together. my choices have always been the PAF pro or the evolution.

I'm leaning towards the TZ, seems a few of you like that one. According to most YT vids, the body is alder. It's amazing how many guitars get their spec sheets messed up from manufacturer to retail. Chinese whispers

The other question I forgot is what type of pup, is it F spaced? I can't find any info.

I put a Duncan custom in one of my gunslingers - love it. Such a great pickup. I've got another gunslinger that will also get a SD custom when I get some time for a pickup swap.

These were made in Korea for a while, then production was moved to China.

Although most people are pretty happy with their MIK Gunslingers, I bought a Chinese made Gunslinger last year and had to return it because the string lock screws on the trem (may have been a Floyd Rose Special?) interfered with the trem route when the guitar was intonated correctly.

Assuming that you don't encounter such structural problems, my vote is for the Duncan Custom. Sounds great in my poplar, ash, alder, and basswood guitars

The yellow one I had was alder and Korean, and it was great. The new Chinese ones are now basswood?
