Ide say sell it, if you don't bond with LPs because they are heavy and this one is heavy long term you will sell it anyway. As far as playing, i do collect but i play what i collect. I won't gig with nicer guitars, anymore after having 2 BCRs cracked and catching someone trying to steal my charvel at a gig. the ESP sounds like it covers your LP needs plus since its 24 and stays in perfect tune, which is something LPs with klusons dont always do.

just play it man. It is a tool, do you not like the tool? I never understood this kind of situation. If you own it, play it otherwise sell it. No point in owning ANYTHING that doesn't get played. I mean it snot like you have an original 57 or 59 LP standard. You have a closet classic...play that bitch or sell it

If you like, love it, play it. Les Paul's hold there value for the most part even with the play wear.

do not like or shy... sell it and do not look back.

But... if it is a "good one", play it, enjoy

I guess if there was the slightest chance that dinging this guitar would bother me, I either wouldn't play it out or I'd sell it. Only you can determine how shitty that first whack will make you feel......

John - if the guitar speaks to you, then play it. If you think of it as a collectable, then sell it. I've never bought a guitar that I wasn't going to play out with - whether it's nice/crappy/expensive/cheap. You've owned/plays tons of guitars. If this one isn't special enough to possibly get "mojo" on, then let it go.

Not really but I would hate to pass up a trade if its beneficial to me. Its not like I need any of these guitars. I have my players and am perfectly happy with them.

If your not going to play it. Sell it and get something you will play. But really, if the guitar is that great PLAY IT! I don't get the point of having this awesome guitar sitting. I've been in that situation, and finally gave my head a shake. I sold a few I didn't play. Now I have players. For what its worth, I deeply regret selling one of the guitars I wouldn't play. You know why I regret it most? BECAUSE THE DUDE I SOLD IT TO MADE IT HIS MAIN AXE AND PLAYS THE FUCK OUT OF IT!! and I didn't. Fail.
-Now....shut up n play yer guitar

It's pretty simple to me. It's not a rare guitar. There will never be a shortage of that particular model in pristine condition (at least not in our lifetimes). If it plays nice and sounds good, play the living shit out of it, and one day when it has earned many battle scars and has a few stories to tell, imagine how cool that thing's going to look. Mojo doesn't come from sitting in a guitar case!

As said before, there's really nothing special about a 98, and I doubt it'll bring the big bucks in years to come.

On the other side of the coin, I've played hundreds of Gibson LPs, at least 20 a month, and have only found one or two worth a damn. If it's a "good" LP, then she might be worth holding on to.

Also worth noting, I'd never in a million years put a 98 LP on my wall for $2k, no matter the condition.

Yea, I am keeping it. Its not a collectors item, who cares if its mint. It plays great and it sounds great. I just need to put my stretchy strap on it to take away some of the weight. I am going to restring it, raise the string height up a little and play the snot out of it.

Why would a collector be interested in a bone stock LP Standard. If it was a custom or a custom color that would be one thing but its just black and cream with gold hardware.
