  • New cheap old JB Player day

Had several of these over the years and all played really well so I went ahead and paid the $42.00.
Good amount of player wear so its had a good life looks like.
Bridge rollers are all free but I'll dismantle the bridge and clean/lube.Tuners work fine so far but will get a little lube for good measure.
Neck is straight nut looks fine, string lock is fully functional. Frets are in great shape.
MIK sometime in the late 80's IIRC. Set neck construction. The body is possibly Luan because the grain looks like mahogany.
The chips on the neck look dark like the body so I'm guessing Luan as well.

Nice score. Have not seen one of these guitars in ages.
I have a Jackson and a Charvel and I play one in each hand.

Cool, get a Player for $40 plus tax. Jealous? Yeah a bit. Congrats Stray.

I had one of these in a tobacco sunburst way back when and it was a good guitar.Had a red a and black crackle as well.
Last one I had was a lemon yellow with a black peg head face.It was the best of the bunch.
Had 3 EMG SA's in the yellow one and it sounded really good.
If I could find a used Kahler 3300 or Kahler flyer I would swap the bridges out and just keep it as a beater.

I thought all JB Player made was bolt on POS that wasn't even beginner level quality. Looking at this I'm definitely surprised and impressed (for a JB Player).

Well Stray, with the money you saved maybe you can splurge on some Velcro for those pedals!

                If I had a Kahler, I'd give it to you...alas, I don't.

Actually plays great and sounds pretty good.
The singles have lots of quack and some nice bite.
The neck is a lot chunkier than a strat neck plus a more rounded profile on the back.Feels more like a Les Paul as far as the neck is concerned.
It may not look good but it feels solid as a rock.

My first guitar was J.B. Player. Necktru with H-S-S EMG select pups with one point locking system and it was NEON YELLOW. Payed 2000 finnish marks -> 333 euros at the time 1993.

SHIT 20 years of guitar playing on and off and still cant play properly
