  • Gibson Rant Pt. 1

How the hell can a company bitch about a competitor infringing on copyrights, when they have done the same to said competitor numerous times.

Jackson can't build any Firebirds, or Explorer stocks, yet if you look hard enough, you'll find one of these:

    funkapottomous-albums-epiphone-rr-picture8060-20130526-123309.jpg

And that's AFTER suing the shit out of everybody in the 70's.

Apparently, hypocrisy is moot when you have enough money and lawyers.

At least they did modify it later down the road when they decided to build another Rhoads.

    Fucking cocksuckers.

There have been very few original guitar designs since the 1950s....ALL manufacturers "steal" from eachother including Jackson....Gibson & Fender etc copied alot of "metal" designs in the 80s then when the trends turned newer manufacturers were copying traditional designs in the 90s!!

Screw Gibson and all they are worth. I never owned one that didn't suck in some way. Even there Chinese counterfeits are so close to their workmanship it is hard to tell them apart without disassembling them. One day they will fold due to their own arrogance and hypocrisy!
I like black and white guitars

As I don`t like how Gibson goes after any other company that gets too close to their LP design, I gotta say that Gibby RR copy is extremely close to a Jackson RR so Gibson shouldn`t say anything about copying nor should Jackson for that matter. Jackson went after ESP and Carvin for the headstock design in the late 80`s. They all are hypocrits in one form or the other. It`s all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Lawsuits definitely aren't always the answer. When Gibson lost the PRS Singlecut lawsuit, precedent was set, and a whole new flood of Les Paul-ish guitars hit the market. Kinda funny actually. And I'm a Gibson fan to some degree.

Just to play devil's advoacate, I like a great guitar regardless of who made it, but there's a reason Gibson has sold more guitars than Jackson and Charvel combined ever will. Wether you personally like them or not they're doing something right.

i love both jackson and gibson. but what i dont get is why gmp, esp and lots of others can make les pauls , roundhorns etc, and jackson wont do it. even before the fender takeover. i would think they would love to up their already crazy cs prices and give the public what they want.....

I've heard people talk about a "gentleman's agreement" in recent years. In other words, they mutually respect each others' designs and agree to not copy, but it is in a nonlegal/unofficial capacity. ESP doesn't really make Les Paul copies in the U.S. I don't think they make roundhorns either. They do for the Japan market, but that's because the U.S. copyright laws don't hold there. At least that's the way I understand it. I don't know much about GMP, but I'm guessing their output is small enough so as to not matter a whole lot.

While I won't argue that Gibson has their faults, I can assure you they are not simply boat anchors nor are Chinese fakes anywhere close to the real deal! I'm a Jackson fan but I'm also fair. There is nothing wrong with a good Les Paul!

                        Common sense land?
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable

Doesn't take stats to figure that out.
