  • NGD: ESP MII NTB and a small project

Picked up the ESP MII Neck Through the other day. Got a great deal from a buddy at my local GC. Someone had sold the ESP case for this guitar with a Mirage they sold. So the discount got bigger and they gave me a Road Runner case. Unfortunately it wasn't a fitted case so I made my own.

This is what it looked like. Just a big open case letting the guitar bang around in there, not good.

Got some foam Home Depot, cut and fitted a large piece. Then traced out the guitar.

    Started digging it out.

A quick test fit. Not bad but needed some more trimming.

I couldn't find any material to match the case lining so I picked the softest material I could find. A little spray adhesive, and bam, DONE. Fits great and no more bouncing around inside the case.

    Specs on the guitar:
    - Neck-Thru-Body Construction
    - 25.5" Scale
    - Alder Body
    - Maple Neck
    - Rosewood Fingerboard
    - 42mm Locking Nut (43mm Neck Width)
    - Extra Thin U Neck Contour
    - 24 XJ Frets
    - Black Hardware
    - Gotoh Tuners
    - Floyd Rose Original Bridge
    - EMG 81 (B & N) Active p.u.
    - Finish: BLK
    - Master Volume
    - 3-Way Toggle
So far I love it. The neck is nice and thin like the mid 90's Dinky Professionals. The EMG 81's aren't bad but I haven't had the time to really run them through a good trial on my rig to see if I want to keep them. I never use the tone, so I have no problem with there not being one.

Cool. I used to own a bolty HS MII. You were downright determined to make that case work!

Looks like a tight fit now good job.
Did you try and use the original lining first?

Yea I did, but the original lining just wouldn't stretch enough to cover everything.

The only somewhat depressing thing was that I sold my Elite Soloist to get the ESP. I just wasn't bonding with the Elite like I hoped I would. Basically an "I wish I could have played it before buying it" situation, but that's how it goes with getting something online. A very close friend, and great player, wants it and is giving me basically what I paid for it. So she's getting a new home tonight.

Very nice! Congrats. Too bad about your Jackson, but the ESP is very cool.
