Like my Pop told me early in my career when I was his apprentice, "a true painter can paint with a broom", meaning don't blame it on the brush. So that shows it is definitely in the player and not the guitar.

with enough gain even a pallet will sound great.... While i play most rock, metal and heavy stuff, IMHO the true test of guitars tone is in the uneffected slightly dirty OD sounds. especially mild OD, its got to be bright enough to cut and have that chikchikachingggg plickety thing in the high side, but still have the thump woomp whoofff in the bass with out getting mushed out electric fart.

Meh just proves to me how subpar of a guitar player I am. My gear looks good have decent chops but the guys who spend time enhancing their playing rather than their gear are always better IMHO, myself being the prime example in the later.
