  • Refreshed Hamer...

Had my '94 USA Hamer Special in the shop for new frets (stainless steel), the neck stripped and oiled (it's actually a 3-piece mahogany neck), and the JB replaced with a blue/black DiMarzio Norton I've had laying around for years. I kept the Duncan '59 in the neck. The shop guy didn't have black rings like I wanted for the pickups, so it looks a little weird with the creme still on it for now, but it plays and sounds better than ever! The body is a little beat up and has some scratches and dings, but that doesn't bother me. The neck had a few dings that used to drive me crazy, which is why I wanted it stripped, and the frets were medium jumbo but looked more like vintage since they've been played on and worn down for years, so now the frets are SS jumbo... still closer to medium than super jumbo, though. I'll never get rid of this guitar.

Nice!!! It would look so much sweeter with the black bezels but that is an easy fix. Love the stripped neck and just for a general idea, may I ask how much was the re-fret? I have a JJ-7 that I want to have jumbo stainless steel frets put on and I was just wondering I never priced such a thing. I would love to have it done, they are rather small now.
I like black and white guitars

It definitely needs the black bezels, but my guy says he couldn't get them... I think he just forgot. He's an older guy that's been around for quite awhile and I've brought guitars to him on and off through the years. He charged me $200 for the SS refret and $75 for stripping the neck and tung oiling it.

Yep! He originally told me regular frets would be $200 and SS would be $225. He also said the neck strip would cost more if it was poly, as he originally thought it might be nitro, but he did say it was poly and that it was a bit harder to strip, and also said the SS frets were definitely harder to work with, but he still charged me less than he quoted.

Great looking mods Joe. I only have my Duotone left - man I miss Hamer.

Nice! Pretty straight forward axe. What you did to the neck is just flat out awesome. Probably glides like butter now. I'll bet that things great for alternate tuning's.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

Love the work on the neck- and he prob looked at the ss as one less job he'll get in a few years..... They last longer no?

The creme really doesn't look all that bad, but I eventually will put black ones on. I do have a black sharpie around here somewhere, though. $350 sounds like a bargain at Hamerfanclub prices. It's yours!

Thanks, Pete! The body is still in pretty much the same condition I got it from you, just the frets got worn down even more. I sold my other Special FM and have just this Hamer left.

It really does rock! I could have left the JB in there, as it did sound decent in the all mahogany, but I always feel the need to get rid of JBs. The Norton is tighter with better bass response, with still a great amount of mids and the treble shaved off just a hair.
