Almost bought a JEM today

I LOVE my Jacksons...but my main player is an MIJ 89-RG570 with a gravity storm in the bridge and EVO in the neck. I love that guitar. I've had it since new and would not trade or sell it for anything. I also have a Prestige that has the low-pro EDGE and its just as solid as the EDGE I believe. I just prefer the feel of the original EDGE. Fantastic trems...

I have a left handed 89 MIJ RG550 in black with the maple board loaded with EVO'S and the original edge bridge. One of my main players since I bought it off my buddy in 92 for $400 bucks. I had to swap the pick ups though because it originally had those really ugly pinkish orange hum single hum pick ups. IBZ's they sounded good but man they were ugly. When you looked at it did it look like a regular floyd or a floyd pro? The original Edge bridge will not say "Ibanez" on it. It'll just say "Licensed under Floyd Rose patents." Here's a pic of the "Original Edge"........ https://www.google.com/search?q=iban...ge%3B560%3B420

Anyway, this one says "Ibanez" and "Licensed By...." on it. It's chrome, I think.

Is there a guide somewhere for the Ibanez trems?

Okay, I called and got someone to look at it for me. She was clueless about guitars but I walked her through some things on the trem. She said that it has the "Licensed by...." statement and otherwise just ways "Ibanez."

Does this tell any of you anything? Does Ibanez stamp their bridges as "Edge," "Lo Pro," or whatever, or do you just have to really know this subject?

Oops, I typed the wrong model number it should be 77VBK (Vine/Black) not to be confused with the 7VBK which is an older model with the squared neck joint, green pickups and green vine. Check Jemsite, lots of good information there on model features and years.
The Edge Pro tremolo will only have the "Ibanez" logo located near the fine tuners, no other markings on the top surfaces. Probably will have "Edge Pro" or just "Edge" on the tremolo block.

Also, did the body have binding?

BTW...I have also had problems responding.

Sounds like the Edge Pro. It's a very solid unit. I have it on my Prestige RG 1550 ML. I own more Ibanez guitars than any other brand. Just look on google imaging. It has pics of all different models for Ibanez.

Thanks. Last night I found a PDF document from Ibanez and sure enough, it's an Edge Pro.

I might revisit this thing on Saturday if it's still there. I'll research further about the fakes, though.

I think its not likely a fake...(although I guess I could really have no idea could I). If that JEM has the EDGE PRO on it I would literally be droping what I was doing and going to buy it immediately.....that's a pretty serious shredder and sound like a good score to me....I would love to own the axe....it could easily become a main player....

Remember, though, that it has fret buzz galore. As I mentioned above, I might walk in there with needle-nose vice grips and ask if I can raise the stripped bass-side post to see if the buzz goes away.

I'll also educate myself a bit further about fakes first. The price of the JEM makes it a natural target for forgery.

Dude! Its just fret buzz that can be fixed! If it has a real EDGE PRO on it, its not a fake. Period. The China ones have crappy trems on them that stand out a mile away....But hey, its your money.

The Edge Pro is a good start, but I also want to check out a few other giveaways for being a fake. There are threads on this at Jemsite and other Ibanez forums.
