  • GMP Destroyer! Need opinion on pickup selector switch please?

Considering a GMP Destroyer three humbucker ala Phil Collen. Controls are one single volume and tone.

I will either do a Strat 5 way with a push/pull to activate the middle pickup when using say the neck or bridge. This will give me plenty of options or.....

A standard Gibson like toggle with a push/pull to activate the middle again.

I prefer the 5 way due to its fast changes in a live situation but feel that the toggle may be more in the Explorer spirit ala 50's Gibson's

It will have a Floyd for what its worth.

Comments? What has better resale in the long run?

I would go with a five way and a small switch for a coil tap option. If you could tap the coils on a set up like that it would give you limitless options. You'd be able to obviously get killer humbucker sounds in the 1-3-5 positions but being able to tap all three to make them single coils would be sweet. JMO
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

Id rather just use push pull pots to add the extra options...

But you'd choose the 5 way huh? Im thinking along those lines too.

      Kills the resale?

I've never resold a guitar I've bought so that's never an issue when I buy or have a new one built. I only concern myself with functionality, play ability, sound, hardware, and aesthetics always last. Do what is going to work for "you" the best when it comes to playing the instrument and be comfortable with it. Edit; I sold my Carvin V220 about 13 years ago and I've regretted it everyday since. That's the only one I ever sold and why I don't sell any of them anymore.

It would be kind of pointless to have three Humbucker's and only a three way toggle. I honestly think you need a five way blade anytime you have more than two pick-ups otherwise just go hum-single or twin humbuckers. Just my opinion bro.

I agree but with a three way toggle AND a push/pull to activate the middle one when needed you still get all options and retain that classic look no?

You could always go all B.C. Rich on its ass and impress your fans with an impressive array of mini-toggles.

Sounds cool. Wrong area for this thread, though?

P.s. - go old school with 3 separate 3 way mini toggles.

Shit! Your right! Would any Mod care to move this thread for me please?

I cant stand those three individual on/off switches especially in a live setting. Reminds me of one of the main reasons I dumped my Model 6. Always wished it came with a 5 way Strat switch...

I guess there's my answer really! LOL!

                      How about a 5-position rotary?

How about this? Gibson has used them apparently. Expensive switch and would take maybe a bit more thought when switching but would cover your needs plus a bonus position (neck bridge?)

                        Would work aesthetically at least.

True but will the push pull enable you to split the humbuckers or just activate the whole middle pick up while the neck or bridge is turned on. The reason I say five way is so you can coil tap and get more tonal options. Example on the five way position 1 bridge..Pos.2 bridge and half the middle humbucker...Pos.3 middle humbucker......Pos.4 Neck and half the middle humbucker...Pos.5 Neck humbucker.

Call me crazy but I can't find the "Destroyer" model on the GMP website. What's it look like?

                            This?
