  • Wayne charvel guitars.

Why aren't there more Wayne guitar fans out there? I mean he is the original charvel creator so why don't people go nuts for them?I know i want one and i would personally prefer it over a modern charvel.

    He needs a website update.

I can't speak for others, only myself.

I am not a fan of Wayne Guitars because:
      1. the same reason I am not a fan of GJ2 guitars. I have no access to them. Therefore I cannot give my opinion. I am not yet pro or anti, I am neutral.
1a. Even if I had access to them, at this stage of my life/career, and the state of the entertainment business in general, I cannot see myself buying another high end guitar (aka expensive). I don't even plan on buying NEW anytime soon.
      2. He is the original CHARVEL guy. I am a JACKSON guy.
2a. I know some can't separate the two brands, but since I wasn't playing until '83, my first opinions of Charvel is -the cheap Japanese label of Jackson-. Everything else is a history lesson to me, not first hand knowledge. I know nothing of the original Charvel to know if I would have been a fan of Wayne over Grover. My first Jackson was in '86, so I barely caught the Grover era.

It's interesting that Wayne has spent the last few years building replicas of iconic Charvels that were built well AFTER he left the company. The pitch seems to be "buy a genuine '83 Charvel (from the guy who sold the company in '78)". But from what I hear (since I've never seen one in person) they are a quality instrument & if that is his hook, then whatever gets customers in the door, right?

+1. I've heard good things about Wayne guitars, and the couple I've played seemed cool. But, yeah, Wayne seems to take credit for things that were really done by Grover in the years after he was already gone.

I had a Wayne - it was a great looking guitar, but I never bonded with it for whatever reason. Nothing bad about it, just didn't do it for me playing wise but obviously that's a very subjective thing. In terms of why we don't see more, there are probably a ton of reasons, including but not limited to:

            - direct sales only with fairly poor web presence
            - very pricey given the above (3k for a dot neck rosewood board, 2 hum with floyd)
            - no artist endorsement / media exposure
            - headstock is an acquired taste
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

I don't understand how he gets credit for ANYTHING Charvel did. It's a known fact that Charvel never built a guitar during his entire tenure with the company. His affiliation is in name only. Like VitaminG and Shreddermon have both mentioned he seems to take credit for things done by said company after he was gone. I have played a few of his guitars and they're pretty nice in his defense but his prices are too steep for my taste and I would much rather have a custom shop Charvel. The last I heard about Wayne he was selling his autograph for $2 or $300.00 bucks plus you have to pay to ship him your guitar and pay the return shipping as well. I would't give ANYONE money for an autograph. I'd tell him to get bent just like I did when Hines Ward wanted $100.00 dollars from me to sign my Steelers jersey.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

Russ Parrish got mentioned twice in the "Wayne has built guitars for" column!
