  • GMP V Progress Pics!

Ordered a trans-purple V in late December, and just got some pics of the progress!

Specs: Natural finish mahogany back, quilted maple top, single-ply binding on body/neck/headstock, oiled maple set neck, ebony fretboard, abalone diamond inlays, SS frets, zebra pickups, and gold hardware!

Can't wait to see it finished!

        Thanks guys!
Dog Boy, I thought about a Pawn Shop instead of a V, but I don't seem to get along with LP's. I'd love to try one out though, because I think the contoured heel would solve that problem (not a fan of the huge heel on the LP's).

Great stuff - GMP build an awesome guitar! And from those specs, it sounds very close to mine:

Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Neilli, I admit I stole the oiled maple neck idea from you! I was talking to Dan about doing an oiled mahogany neck, and he dissuaded me from doing that. He pointed me to your thread on here, and sent me pics of your build, mainly because I was curious how the gold would look with the purple. Needless to say, yours got me even more stoked about mine! Such a classy looking V!

                  z1n, I went with a 3-way toggle and single volume...kept it simple.

Why did he dissuade you from going with oiled mahogany? Oiled mahogany is awesome. I had that done on my Carvin 7-string build (5-piece neck with 2 maple stripes). And I had my Hamer's mahogany neck recently stripped and oiled, love it!

Your build sounds great, though, and I'm looking forward to seeing it completed!

Toejam, ya know, I don't remember exactly. He suggested doing a satin finish on the mahogany neck, but didn't want to leave it just oiled. I want to say because it wouldn't have any grain filler, and not be super smooth? ...either that or he was concerned about stability. Regardless, when I saw Neilli's with the oiled maple, I felt that was a good compromise.

I tried to incorporate everything I like about my other guitars into this, so I've got high hopes!

Cool. Oiled maple is great, as well. Sounds like a winner, either way.

Looks awesome so far and Dan and his team do such an amazing job I can't wait to see this done! My 2 GMP V's jumped to the top of my favorite V's for many reasons. Such great work. I just can't resist. Heres more to tide you over.

Great specs on the V! Can't wait to see it done, especially since I love the look of Neilli's purple quilt.
