  • NGD- Suhr

Piss poor weather while on vacation, a metric sit ton of boredom and music store that stocked some badass Suhr's = NGD.
For a bolt-on pro mod, this thing kicks the collective asses of almost every one of my custom shop axes. The only short fall would be the 5 way switch and the Gotoh Floyd.

Gorgeous. Beautiful top on that one. Congrats.

What do you think of the neck? How would it compare to a Charvel?

Still comparing them (it had to be A/B-ed against my Hamer Custom Cali first!) but right off the bat, very comparable in terms of finish- both are sans finish. The Suhr is a tiny bit smaller with a 10- 14" radius vs. Charvel's 12- 16", Suhr's have the modern elliptical profile. Charvels have the wider, medium thin D. Both have nicely rolled edges. But the fret work on the Suhr seems a bit more refined. The frets are SS vs. Charvel's nickel ones.

How is the gotoh a shortfall? I think they are the best floyds going.

Agree here my gotoh floyd never goes out on my Suhr. I like to think of Suhrs as Custom shop Charvels . Great guitar Vector !!!

It's got it's attributes to be sure- angled, tapered saddle blocks, very solid construction and very good sonic resonance. But the arm thickness/diameter is slightly thinner compared to the OFR and feels "cheap". The mechanism for controlling arm swing is a drag- need to get out an allen wrench to adjust. With OFR's you just hand tighten the collar screw and done. While it does hold tuning very well I wouldn't say it's better than any of the 2 dozen or so Floyd's and Schallers I've used. Additionally, it isn't as responsive as my OFR's and Schaller Lic'd versions, either. I cannot get the same level of trem effects from my Gotoh that I can with my OFR's.

In the end, it's a subjective issue. Pluses and minuses. The OFR and Schaller Lic'd versions work very well for me. Aside from the angled saddles, the Gotoh offers me nothing over a Floyd Rose and the Schaller version. Obviously for you, it is superior.

                        It's all good.

I played one once. It was insanely amazing in every respect. Its as custom shop sounding, looking and playing as you could get.
