  • Ngd and i am stoked bigtime

I am getting it tonight. The hours couldn't pass fast enough.
I know that most GIBBY LP owners hate this guitar but Gary Moore is one of my guitar hero's. Fans of Gary have told me on numerous occasions that my original soloing reminds them of Gary. I actually do think my phrasing sounds like him.. especially the live solo for Empty Rooms. Anyway.... I am picking up a Gibson Gary Moore Signature BFG. I know.... (Barely Finished Guitar), weird electronics, weird pickup arrangement (Zebra Burstbucker 3 in the bridge and a P90 in the neck), weird routed finish on the body, no binding, no fret marker inlays, 50's style chunky neck profile, stage 1 finished neck etc.....
There are a few video's of Gary playing one live but IMHO... he might have played them just for promotional purposes. That's a big argument online with the Gibby and Gary Moore fanatics. As far as I am concerned.. its a Gary Moore Signature model and I really don't care how many times he played one live. Its a guitar he approved. Its a guitar he has his name on.. and its not like there are that many Gary Moore Signature guitars from any manufacturer.

    Anyway....

The one I am picking up is the standard Lemonburst finish. The owner put a Bigsby on it, removed the burstbucker 3 and put a custom custom in the bridge, turned the kill switch into the traditional LP pickup selector toggle, put a coil tap switch where the LP pickup selector was on this guitar which was in one of the tone pot holes. It also has upgraded tuners on it. It comes with all the original parts but I doubt I will turn it back into stock. The only thing that he did that can't be returned to stock is he installed a pickup ring on the humbucker so the top has 4 little pickup rings in it if I chose to remove it. I don't.
I am paying probably more than I should for it but I am ok with it. My other guitar hero is Steve Lukather and several months ago I scored a black Luke 1 that I absolutely love. It will be super cool to have a Gary Moore Signature model too. For the trifecta I need to get a Randy Rhoads RR1 in cream with gold pinstripes and I will be GOOD TO GO.

Anyway.. are there any Gary Moore BFG owners around these parts?

Hey jgcable, congrats on your purchase.

The one I have isn't a BFG, but one of the original run they did about 10 or so years ago. It's one of the better sounding lps that I have.

Its what YOU want that matters. The LP/GM fan boy cork sniffers can go on down the road.
I had one BFG and it was a great guitar.
      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I have one of the newer Gary Moore "standard". It has no binding and a granadillo fretboard. I don't prefer to buy new, but I know the older signature ones go for quite a bit. It has a chunky neck, but comfortable as hell. Nice mild flame and the lemonburst finish. It is an amazing player and sounds incredible. Probably the best playing Les Paul I have played. Once again, the Les Paul forum cork sniffers don't really acknowledge it - Granadillo fretboard and no binding equals an overpriced "Studio Les Paul". Whatever....got it new with 15% off from MF. Hard to put down once its in my hands.
        Still missing Gary Moore.
Congrats and let us know the details when you get it.

I got it and its awesome. Big chunky neck. Tall thin frets. The P90 is just insane. Its very light. I just need to figure out if I like the Bigsby or not. Its huge, its cool as heck looking but I don't know if I want a mouse trap looking contraption on the top of my guitar! Just knowing its a Gary Moore Signature BFG is enough for me.

Congrats on the Gary Moore sig LP. My vote is for doing away with the Bigsby though. They hide half the guitar. If there has to be a term on a guitar it might was well be a Floyd or a Kahler. At least those stay in tune
Funny you guys are mentioning Gary Moore sig LP's, I was listening to some live Parisienne Walkways in the car earlier today

I've always kinda liked the BFG. Never equated it with Gary. I'll always think first of Greeny, his red Strat, the Charvels or even his signature Heritage. I never made the connection between the BFG & GM.

The only thing I don't really like about the BFG are the wooden knobs, but they can easily be changed. The lemonburst is very cool

Its got the most unusual fret board. Its baked maple. Tall thin frets. I am most likely going to remove the Bigsby. Its the version that attaches using the tailstop mounts so the guitar didn't need to be modified in any way.

Here is a question on it... the original owner did a bunch of wiring on it and one of the mods he did was called the 50's mod. He also added a 1 meg no load pot for the bridge pickup. The guitar does 2 things that I am not a fan of. Its a little bright in the bridge position and when I roll down the volume on the bridge pickup it doesn't shut off. I would say it turns down to around 2 when its on 0. Is that because of the 1meg pot? It came stock with a 500k for the bridge and a 300K for the P90 in the neck. That pot is still in there. The neck pickup turns off with the volume rolled all the way down. The guitar is currently set up with the pickup selector in the traditional position, it has 2 volumes, 1 master tone and the toggle near the bridge is a coil tap for the bridge pickup.

If you're just now discovering the sonic treats that a P90 can deliver....I envy you. I was one of those guys...it was way to vintage for my tastes. But then I got hold of a guitar with a set. They are easily the most versatile pickup I've ever used, and sound incredible! They're by far my favorite pickups to use for any type of music. Have fun and congrats.

Nice one! Definitely ditch the Bigsby, though.

Awesome score man, and that top looks incredible. The bigsby does look out of place though. Love the clean looking fret board too.
