  • Gotoh Floyd/JEM

I've an '89 JEM with an original Edge & a '91 JEM with a Lo Pro that are both rusted out to the @#$%! Does anyone know if a Gotoh will swap straight in to both routes? The Gotoh is way cheaper (esp compared to a replacement Lo Pro) with nearly the same specs as the Edges + the added bonus of the brass block as standard!

    Cheers.

I don't think they will BUT not an expert on the Gotoh's. An OFR definitely will on the original Edge trem, pretty sure it will on the lo pro but have never tried.
    It's pronounced soops

Take the trems apart and soak them in WD 40 for a few days.Scrub them off with a nylon tooth brush.
You should be able to get most of the rust off.I have done them in a sonic bath too and that did a great job.

Yes there are 3-4 block size choices when ordering a Gotoh. Guy in Oz here has them on ebay with 33mm blocks which would be perfect and are approx $50 cheaper then buying an original Edge, which I know would fit in both guitars. Lo Pros are around the $350+ range though, due to them not being made anymore.

Did you have to change the posts or cut into the route at all steeny?

Umm....bit too far past that I'm afraid!

This one, the Lo Pro, is the better of the two! Although, the original owner of the '91, didn't screw the arm sleeve up tight in the base and stripped the thread in the base, so the arm is wobbly! Argh, if only it was the sleeve's thread! Tried a few different ways to get it tight but most only lasted a week or so before it loosened again! Only option left for it I guess was to try Ferropre or maybe get someone who can weld cast steel to lock the sleeve in the block.

Indeed you did. But did you need to do any mods?

The only answer I came up with after what seemed hours searching, was that the Gotoh fitted in a Lo TRS route and not in an Edge route. You didn't have one of those on your Sabre?

sorry, I misread. I thought you were showing a pic of a guitar that you thought had a lopro. Didn't know that you were who replaced the trem

I agree that trem is pretty far gone LOL.
Just order a new edge from Ibanez or search EBay.
