Just snagged this beauty last night. VERY excited to try it out but won't get it until a week from today.
For those not familiar with Hamer Diablo's- typically, they were alder bodies with maple necks reversed head stocks and rosewood boards, 2 H or, in the case of the Diablo II's- HSH and non-reversed head stocks. Yes, the neck p'up is slanted by design and no, it serves no functional purpose that I'm aware of.

This one is a rare '94 custom order with red Duncans (JB and '59, an ebony board, a non-reversed head stock and the "boomerang" inlays.

Wouldn't those options make it a Diabloon Elite? I had an old Cali Elite that had ebony Un with chevron inlays. Itwas awesome I still miss it.

Hey Vector I'm curious - I used to have a catalog (early 90's I think maybe 80's) that had a Cali in trans yellow and maple top (can't remember if it was flame or quilt) know if anyone has catalog scans of that one?

I got to meet Joel (?) from Hammer at a Hamerfest in Livermore around 93ish, he was pretty cool. Jeff Watson was the guest guitarist (and a major prick at the time) and I can't remember the bass player they had show up. I'm sorry I never had the money to order the guitar I wanted. The cool thing was the had one of Brad Gillis explorer shaped guitars (it wasn't the red and black one I think it was black and white) it was actually his guitar and had his name on the fret board, they wanted to do a hamer at valley music version of hard rock cafe since valley music sold so many Hamers. His was the only Hamer I actually got to take off the wall and play, Dave wouldn't allow people to play the stuff unless he knew they were interested in actually buying it, that one he didn't let anyone touch but I had been going to that shop since I was 13 and it was a nice playing guitar.

Oh anyway Joel was pretty cool (I think that was his name, he was a builder or owner(?) we actually talked in great length about my 92 rhoads LTD he wanted me to run home and bring it over but I had to go to work (bleh) anyway... my one and only real Hamer story.

As far as the neck pickup being slanted: looking at the cutaway in those pics, it appears that if the pickup were mounted straight, it would be outside of the body (or VERY close to the edge) on the treble side. That probably explains why they did it that way.
