  • Thoughts on GJ2 Glendora

    Hi guys,

A dealer around 2 hours away from me has a really good price on a mango pearl GJ2 Glendora (maple neck, colour matched headstock, H/S/S layout). Comes with the nice blue-lined GJ2 case. Price is GBP 999 reduced from GBP 1499

I'd have to sell an Ibanez Prestige RG2610 to fund the purchase and then make up the rest of the cash.

I've never played a GJ2 so if anyone has I'd be interested to know their thoughts. I play a ESP M-II with two hums at the moment. Main reason for getting the guitar would be to have the H/S/S layout and a non-recessed Floyd. Also a USA guitar at that price point seems very reasonable.

Wow that's a great price. I've played a few GJ2 and find the quality of the guitars are right up there with my custom shop charvel's. I just ordered a arête 5 star neck through and believe GJ2 guitars will be the future collector and "must have Guitars" like Jackson and charvel guitars are now.

Had to go and check it out! That's really nice - I've heard a lot of good things about GJ2s, didn't realise any had made it to this side of the pond.
It's actually about 2hrs away from me too!
      Don't worry - I'm skint....

I am not crazy about the swimming pool route used on all of the Glendora models. Seems like too much wood is removed.

I've played a bunch and they're killer. Fantastic neck profile on them, too.

I missed out on a taxi cab yellow USA charvel pro mod a few years back (massive error on my part) so I'm looking for a guitar with a similar vibe

That maybe a Grover thing.. he said that Holdsworth preferred the pool route and it was copied under the pick guard/scratchplate on Allan's Ibanez Roadstar sig.. Ibby even included hype about the Allan approved route in their advertising for their Holdsworth model.

I've played a few of the GJ2 guitars. My favorite was called the "spirit of 79'". Essentially it was an EVH guitar w/o the paintjob. It played and sounded fantastic. The other Glendora's I played were ok, but not better or worse than a San Dimas. I'm not a fan of the basswood bodies. The fretboards aren't nearly as rounded as a charvel pro mod. I have yet to play an Are'te.
