Scored a 1990 Fender '54 Stratocaster on ebay the other week and it arrived yesterday!
Despite being dog tired after what was a long and hot week, I dove right into cleaning up what I knew to be a great guitar under all that grime!
This was a truly nasty one folks! Took plenty of spit and polish to restore this Japanese Strat.
I was pleasantly surprised to see USA alnico pickups as well as a full sized steel tremolo block. Most MIJ Strats tend to come with crappy ceramic single coils that end up straight in the parts bin and small undersized tremolo blocks in cast.
Ya the pots and 5 way are still pretty crap so I will rewire the whole guitar in the future with some CTS goodies but for now I just did the fast "Jimmie Vaughan mod" where the bridge pup is connected to the second tone pot in order to tame some of the highs.
Still need to fine tune the action and intonation but her she is in all her glory!
Has medium small frets that will eventually be replaced with some 6100 Dunlops but thats about it! Has that great Strat bell like chime. Neck has a VERY pronounced V and is smooth and well worn.
Loving this Strat already!!!
