  • BC Rich Rave Warlock Project

This guitar is the first new guitar I bought with my own money a long LONG time ago. She started out a metallic bright pearl white guitar with a non locking trem, 1 shitty humbucker, 1 vol and 1 tone knob.

It saw many mods over the years and as I did those mods I found out it was indeed a plywood body so not too much care was taken in my mods as many were done with a hammer, chisel and sandpaper. Over the years I stripped the face and stained it blue, installed a slanted single coil, locking nut and recessed Floyd Rose trem. I did carefully scallop from the 13th to the 24th frets by hand with a pencil wrapped in various grades of sandpaper. She has seen much abuse thru the years. Still have some sentimental attachment to it, so it's time to make something of her.

That bottom point was broken after being thrown down a flight of basement stairs into a block wall and cement floor....other than that it was fine...lol

Going to fill the trem and locking nut routes and will either fill the single coil cavity or open it up for a humbucker. I want to install a bone nut and a kahler fixed bridge.....gonna be a work in progress.......

Nice. Interesting to see what it will look like when it's done!

Looking forward to progress pics but I do gotta say, that's pretty high on the odd HS shapes list in my book.

I always found it funny that the body is an undersized Warlock and the headstock is ginormous. I always liked that about it. It's a pretty big mess right now but the neck seems to still be straight.

Are you going to swap the body out on it for a real wood one or keep the plywood one on it?

I'm gonna keep the plywood one. It's going to have some solid wood in it now as I'm plugging the holes with poplar. It's my only bolt-on so it'll be more of a knock around player at home like the Chibson.

I see that I am not the only one that writes stuff upside down on the back of his guitar.

LOL! That's great! That was actually something I put on there to flash at friends in the crowd at shows. It was sort of an inside joke. The guitar had a spider web finish and that painted on the back the first time I got it painted. The look has changed several times over the years.....but that has always stayed.

That was written on paper and wrapped around the cavity cover.
I changed mine many times too --- mainly because it would rip.

I also had to have my teeth fixed because the strings were tougher than enamel. And then I had to get the fixed teeth fixed because strings are tougher than the porcelain they used.

OMG! AWESOME! That my friend is what I call dedication. Hope you have a good dental plan.

                    **Update**
Titebond setting on rear trem cavity now. Neck pickup opened up to accommodate humbucker. I'll take some pics after I get her out of the clamps tomorrow.

                      ***NEW UPDATE***

So it's been hectic lately and I forgot to post progress pictures. I will later tonight when I get home. This project has taken an unexpected turn. As is my preference, I hate the feel of a bolt-on neck, this guitar was a bolt-on and well, that just wouldn't do. I say "WAS" because I've done what everyone I've seen quoted says that you just simply can not convert a bolt-on guitar successfully I took as an insult/challenge and although I need to fine tune the joint this neck is now set/doweled/glued. The last 3 dowels I put thru the 24th fret markers so where there were no dots there are now 3 maple ones....pretty cool. We'll see how it ends up working. I also filled the holes from the Floyd nut and recessed trem cavity.

I also restained the face a wild/fugly cool red/pink/blue/green/yellow/natural finish and will be keeping the metallic white, the bare wood will be sprayed with Cadillac Brilliant white metallic which is very close to the original color.

Let me preface this by saying I am no expert in woodworking....lol

Front and back of locking nut butcher job fill....

The trem fill looks crappy, but it is flat and smooth....and will be almost completely covered by the Kahler.....lol
The neck pickup route was tricky as the slanted single was angled so strange....but a hum will fit and a ring hides the edges....lol
My favorite feature is the 24th fretmarker trio.

Rear cavity and rough neck joint

                        Don't be too rough guys....lol

Thanks. Over the weekend I got the neck joint right about where I like it now I just have to get some good primer, a can of Cadillac Brilliant white metallic and a couple cans of clear........

Someone here did the same thing to a bolt-on Rhoads many years ago, looked cool. Yours looks pretty cool, too!
