Odd ... They don't do that. Seen plenty of DC600 w/ flame & quilted tops. Its just glueing a piece of maple on top of the body like any other neck-thru right ?

It was most likely installed by the owner. From what I understand, Carvin will install the pups of your choice when building, but if it's not one of theirs you have to send them in. Most people prefer to swap them (if they're going to) after they get the guitar.

I thought it was odd also. But ive also seen flamed tops with flamed necks so they might put that under their option 50 heading.

Maple top shouldn't be an option 50. There's some parts of the guitar builder with mistakes/missing options. Your guitar obviously has a flamed maple headstock overaly, which is not standard, so a maple top can also be added. Might even have solid maple body wings instead of alder.

The headstock isnt an overlay. Thats the neck flame.

Really? That pointy headstock is actually two pieces... look at the seam on the back where they glue another piece on where it tilts, right between the B and E tuners. I don't see that on the front of the headstock.

Also, when I bring up the old DC125 page or DC127 page, the first page of the builder, second section, has options for bookmatched flame or quilted top (just no prices listed on them, so you'd have to call your order in to get their new pricing). Whoever ordered that just didn't want a top on it, but it is indeed available.

I've looked at the front and back of that headstock tons of times and never put 2 and 2 together. You're completely right, I stand corrected.

If it were their regular non-pointy headstock with the flamed neck, the flames probably would be on the top of the headstock, too.
I remember reading about that pointy on the forum awhile ago where they said they had to glue a second piece on. You can't tell when it's painted, but definitely when it's left natural.
You could probably email Carvin with the serial number and get the full specs on it when originally ordered. It's a gorgeous guitar all around!
