  • Best Jackson Copies?

    I've got a RR1 USA and a Soloist USA.
I'm considering getting a custom ordered Jackson with my preferred specs and color. I went to look at the custom order form. Wow...over $3 grand just to get started. Add finish color, hardware, electronics, it's going to be near $4 grand.
I don't have that kind of change laying around.
So, what to do? I local luthier wants about $2700 to make one to my specs, but it won't have the Jackson M.O.P logo. Still $2700 isn't cheap either.
Would you go and do a chinese copy? If yes, then where would you get it from? I'm concerned about the quality and overall feel and sound. I'm leaning towards the local luthier. All replies appreciated.

You do realize those are just list prices, right? Negotiate a decent discount with a dealer and, depending on options, you could easily be around $3k or maybe even less. For example, I just ordered a custom select Soloist - I loaded it up with a lot of options, and was still well under $3.5k.

...Give Matt's Music a call, he's the best.

Hmm...I did not know that was the case. I'll call Matt's or a local place and see what I can do.
      Thank you.

How about well under $2000.00, USA-made, all options you want, and neck-through?

If you are used to the quality of USA Jacksons I wouldn't even consider one of the Chinese knock offs. It would be like throwing money away.

A knock off is always a knock off. There's a reason they cost less - junk

Yeah, you can look at the Custom Select price list on the Jackson site, then total up your options and take 40% off the total to get a ballpark of what it'd cost you. Failing that, buy used and compromise on a spec or two..

A local Jackson Dealer told me to order a Schecter.
He said they will make anything you want. Including digitally mapping a guitar and making an exact copy.

I did not take him up on that offer. But if Jackson won't make copies of old Jackson guitars, I can see some people doing it.
Not me. I don't like Schecter guitars, so why would I try to order a custom designed model.

But are they really under $2k once you pile on the options?

Honestly, I didn't spec one out yet, so maybe not. But I'll bet it's close.

Plus, the Ultra V body is a "reverse" Rhoads, basically.

Hey, I just had a brainstorm. Order an Ultra V for a left-hander, then specify a reverse headstock. Then when it arrives, swap the Floyd for a right-handed model, and Voila! Rhoads copy!

I called Matt's and asked a few questions. if you want anything different than what is offerd, it's considered to be a Materbuild, and plan on waiting 2+ years for that guitar. Arggg.

Exactly what options do you want?

Sure, if you don't mind the knobs and toggles getting in the way of your picking arm, up there on the top wing. LOL

I was kidding, but the Ultra V really does look badass.
