  • ESP Alexi 200 any good?

I know it's MIC and the lowest grade version of the serie but someone wants to trade it for my ESP LTD M207 (7 string). My guitar has been collecting dust for years and I kinda dig the RR look of the Alexi. I do also have an EMG in my parts bin who's looking for a guitar.

The guitar I'm trading has some scars and bruises while the one the guy is offering is dead mint. Anyway, go or no go? I'm really tempted.

I look at it this way:

What do you have to lose? Your trade bait has been sitting idle, and you seem to dig the look of the Alexi V. With an EMG in it and some fret work, it could end up being a decent playing and sounding guitar.

Worst case scenario, you trade, play it for a few weeks/months, realize it's not working out, and either sell or trade it for something else.

      I vote to trade.

I had one a few years ago. It had a Floyd Special on it from the factory, and an ESP pickup that said "ESP" where EMG puts their logo. I installed a Duncan Blackout, and gigged the guitar for 2 years as my drop-D guitar. I liked it.

        GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

        and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

I've got one. It's a tad banged up (Ebay special, plan to restore it eventually...), but it's got a Floyd Special and the neck is comfy enough... It's nowhere near the quality of my USA Hamer, but for a cheapie it's pretty good.

Thanks everyone! For sure, I'm not looking for MiUSA quality and it's mostly a "why not" trade as I don't feel like loosing anything.

How is the neck on these? Thin, flat, round??? I've never played one? Can someone compare it to something out there?

Well, you are losing a 7 string. You are gaining a V.
That's really what it boils down to. 7 vs V. If it is your only 7 string, and you feel as if you may need a 7 string someday, don't do it. If you think you'll never need a 7 string or if you have others, dump the sumbich.

You have a 200, you are trading for a 200. Really, there shouldn't be too much difference.

The alexi 200 LTD is absolute garbage. spend about $200 more and you'll have a Alexi 600. believe me thats what you actually want to do. the 200 is a childs guitar made to cash grab from unsuspecting dads buying guitars for their kids. I could buy a 200 for $99 and truthfully I'd rather just have the $99. I had one of these for free and gave it away.

biggest gripes, inlays are as thin as a guitar pick and once they lift off you start catching your fingers on them, they are shaped like saws. do the math.

@pianoguy: I already have too many guitars (I lost count, may be 15, 20 ???). I also have a not too bad Ibanez 7 string (this one is a keeper), so I'm trading the guitar I use the less in my collection.

                  ------------------

For the others, I did the trade tonite. Pics to come later than sooner (too busy these days). I'm suprised of the overall feel of the guitar. It was setup in drop C. With Floyd badly locked with the springs pulled to max. Very weird. First thing I did was to tear it apart. I should have some time this coming weekend to set it up to my liking and will repost then.

Yes, the Floyd feels cheap. PU is probably weak too (haven't plugged it yet) and anyway, I have an EMG somewhere in my parts bin looking for a guitar. Frets feels good no sharp edges and the guitar was in a 9.5/10 shape and looked not played much. I also got a very nice padded soft case.

The kid that got my guitar was happy. I feel the trade was fair. Everybody wins! More to come as a NGD post. Rock on! Gotta practice to be ready for my rehearsal next evening.

                        That's pretty bad.

Mine was looking fine before I tore it apart. I'll keep you posted once I'll finish setting it up.

Almost done with the setup. My string alignment is good and the Floyd Special is not so bad (but far from an Ibanez Edge (got a bunch of those)). Was also expecting the stock PU to be worst. The neck is not thin if I compare it to my JP6s or my RG550s. The LTD fretboard is flat with a comfortable rounded back.

More later with a few pics.

I had that nearly the same with a RR3. The neck had to be shimmed. It was way off. I can understand a little bit but man that was far off.
