No pickguard! It takes away that "stripped-down shred monster" look. If you put a guard on it, before long you'll be wondering whether to put a dorky little chrome single-coil in the neck position....

Ha! Nah...if it was getting routed for a neck pickup it'd be a SD Jazz or '59.

I am going to start finish work on the body this weekend...either Lemon Oil for color and a Nitro Clear or I may just grain fill and Clear Gloss it.

Lemon oil for color? Lemon oil is a cleaner/conditioner, not a finish.

I also vote for no pickguard. The pickguard looks okay, but looks better without.

No, Lemon Oil is not a finish, but it does color the wood and brings the grain out nicely...couple of others that I have done with Lemon Oil...






The Tru Oil and probably a few coats of Nitrocellulose will be the finish.

An interesting "slippery slope" argument here, but I'd still put the PG back on. The ash figuring is nice, but it's not an AAAA bookmatched maple top now is it. That's a wall of wood there, especially without a neck pup to break it up.

It is an expanse of "blonde" w/o the pickguard and it's got a more classic look w/the pickguard...think my decision has been made.
