  • Amfisound Guitars?

I've been seeing their logo pop up more and more these days.

Looks like they do some cool inspired stuff in Finland. Quality looks amazing!

      Yeah they look awesome!

I've tried one, the Rhoads style "Routa" model. It was back in 2007 at the "Finnish Metal Expo" in Helsinki, so I don't really remember much, other than it felt great. Would love to try one again though!

Yes, I would order one before ordering another CJ!

And yeah, I'm really curious how they play but they look like they're very well built.

That 8 string v is beautiful. I have no idea what I would do with 8 strings... A seven is all my hand can fathom.

Always thought their guitars looked great. Never got a chance to play one, though.

I used to think the same way, but after buying a cheap LTD 8-string a couple years ago, I loved it. Mine had a standard 25.5" scale, so it was a good way to test out being new to 8-strings, but the low F# still seemed to be a little floppy on that scale, even with an 82 gauge string.

I ordered a Carvin DC800 after that (27" scale) and it definitely works much better, and sounds very piano-like, too. I would normally use 10s on most of my guitars, but the higher strings definitely have more tension with the longer scale length, so I now use a more-balanced 9-gauge set with larger strings for the lower end; a 60 B and 80 or 82 F#.

TJ what do you play with the 8 string. The additional string as I learned with the seven can be awesome because you can play more in one position. Frequency wise though man an 8 is getting pretty low. If I did venture I would go the cheap cheap route to mess around with.

I play little bits of Meshuggah-type stuff here and there (though, they're tuned down a half-step lower). I also like to goof around and write some of my own stuff with it, but I still play a lot of old-school trash like Slayer, Exodus, Overkill, Megadeth, etc. and just have fun with it, throw some extra lowness in there. Once you get used to playing 8, then going back to a 6 or 7 afterwards, it makes the necks feel tiny as hell!

If they're good enough for Kalmah, they're good enough for me. Saw a black Rhoads shape that had the routa outline in an ice blue colour. What a beaut!

Once you figure octaves, the 8 is pretty easy to get used to. Once you kind of get it, it's easy to start using the extra strings. There's a whole bunch else you can do... and you start thinking a little more like a bassist, other cool stuff you can't do on a 6 or 7 can be fun. Getting used to E being two strings down can get you lost sometimes.

If you can play the first four strings on a 6 string, adding two extra strings isn't really all that difficult.
