  • NGD... Another Ibanez RG550

well, I can not say no when I see one for cheap in the local ads. (This one is good to catch cats!)

Pics are just after I got it, so the previous owner's setup was pretty bad (Edge was pulled up!!!). Seller didn't know how to set it up (and he tried to show me how to do it).

He told me it's a 1987 but the serial number is gone... For sure it's from the 1987-1989 era by the volume position (closer to the bridge PU).

As the guitar looked barely played: no rust on the bridge, posts were looking pretty clean, pickups numbers are looking new and neck wear is minimal. Only the numerous dings and paint chips showed the thing had been manipulated.

For an almost 30 years guitar... set up was a breeze! I just put 9 to 42, tuned it and voilà, it was perfect: string action and Edge angle, nothing to do.

This is my 3rd one. I have a 1989 RG550 and a 1994 too. I was also lucky a few months back to catch a RG750 for cheap too (this one is pretty awesome).

The issue right now is too many guitars and not enough time to play them.

Nice catch. It's hard passing them up , I feel your pain.
Matches the cat for a bonus.

      Congrats!

      I see two cats.

A 1990 RG560 was my first electric which I bought around the year 2000. Paid CAD$600 for it with generic teardrop hardshell case, because I didn't know any better, which I imagine is a lot more expensive than you paid for your three early RGs.

Can't see the pics, but a 1987 wouldn't have numbers on the pickups.
My 87 RG560 were all black, no markings at all and it's had one owner since day one.
I believe they started doing that in 88.

Looking at the image URL, it looks like he's posting them from a private Google folder.
He would be the only one able to see them.

I can't see the pics either. Congrats on the grab though. A local pawnbrokers had an early 90s RG550 for around $200 recently. AANJ, teal green. My research suggested it was a '94 based on the colour & specs. Was in players condition but no issues, a good solid guitar. Was hard to walk away but you just can't pick up every good deal that comes along. Can you?

Make sense! I'll investigate on that.

I hear you... My 3 RG550 were bought because of the cheap price... What I really like about them, is that they sound damn good with the various PUs positions, you can abuse the tremolo and they stay in tune, and they are comfortable to play. And when you get them for cheap, you are not to worry to move them around for rehearsals and gigs.

Sorry guys... Google Photos has been playing tricks with me... I set up the parameters to make the pics available to everyone. That's strange.

Nice shape. Neck looks pretty clean too.

Those Japanese 1987-2002 or so Ibanez RG's are one of the best bang-for-the-buck bolt-on's in the used market. I'm surprised they have not appreciated in value more considering the ridiculous cost of current Japanese RG's. Hang onto that one, these suckers have nowhere but up to go in value.

Nice pussy I'm a cat person but never liked black cats until this guy showed up at my front door. Took him to the vet and found out that he was a rare and expensive "Black Bombay".

Those go for $20 a pound! Delicious and just in time for Memorial Day barbecues!
