  • Hamer Cali Std. Project- Complete!

For those who recall, I took a late 80's Hamer USA Cali Std. and did a major overhaul on it. It just came back from the painters and after putting her back together and wiring her up, she plays and sounds f-ing great!

Some noteworthy additions not mentioned in the initial thread are the FU Tone Pickup Mounting System I used to direct mount the SD Perpetual Burn. Slick, easy to install unit but I've yet to hear any increase in resonance and sustain. The FU Tone PMS also indirectly aided in overcoming a mounting issue I was having with the neck SD Hot Rails. Seems the mounting screws for the Hot Rails were too long but the PMS came with various sizes of mounting screws, one set of which, while not needed for the bridge mount, ended up working perfectly for the neck one. Serendipitous, to say the least.

Nothing funny about this one. Fucking rocks! The Lock Meister Floyd is super responsive! The action is a tit hair above fretting out and the stainless frets make for wicked vibrato and effortless, monster bending. The p'ups are a very welcome alternative to the time-honored JB/'59 combo (or in my case, the TB-5 Custom/'59 combo) Sweet mid range honk and growl and snappy highs for great harmonics and snarling upper note articulation.

No, that's not odd at all... Though graphically speaking, with a few revisions, that might make a cool design for one of my axes.

I love it! Sounds absolutely killer in my Charvel CS Star. Oddly, in the Ha Ha Cali it has a bit more high-end snap and presence which I'm attributing to the direct mounting using the FU Tone PMS and the stainless frets. I'll eventually figure out how to mitigate that treble-y aspect as while I like some clear and punchy high end, this flirts with sonic annoyance when run thru my hi gain rig.
