A couple of new things from EVH

  • #2
That LBX 2 head looks awesome. I love the green channel with the gain dimed...crunchy and smooth.

I hope they update the original LBX to have the same gain/volume controls, and the 50W head would benefit immensely from this.

The 5150 looks very cool. I'm shocked that FMIC's lawyers green lighted it, though. I mean, the hockey stock headstock and Kramer-ish body contours are practically goading Gibson into a lawsuit. I can see that they're slightly altered to not be exactly the same as his old Kramer. But they're damn close.

It's ballsy. I only wish they could grow a similar pair to allow some of the older Jackson body styles,

Overall, I feel like Gibson doesn't give enough of a flying fuck about Kramer to pursue Fender for this EVH 5150.

Hope you're right. Maybe that would pave the way for Jackson sometime down the line, too. Hope springs eternal. LOL

Go look at the NAMM thread. With the Les Paul, Explorer and Firebird bodies they're showing it's clear they don't give a fuck.

They've shown a few one-off show pieces at NAMM like that for a couple of years now, but you STILL can't order them. Those body styles are still not permitted for customer orders.

I overheard a Charvel employee talking to a a guy about the hockey headstock. He said that Kramer still owns the copyright and that Charvel had to do a lot of tweaks so they wouldn't get sued. That's why it doesn't look 100% like EVH's. They even had to work on a lot of variants as to what to call the headstock and finally got the ok for hockey stick.

The 5150 guitar looks sweet! But it looks like it will be $1400 vs. $1000 for the current R/W/B striped guitar with the Strat head. Unless I'm missing something, the specs appear to be the same, so is it just a styling difference?

Help me out here. I'm not seeing the difference between the original and the II?

The amps I can understand if they sound good and are reasonable priced. The guitars, I just don't get. Who are these marketed towards ? They are 20 years too late. I imagine many of you are in the same boat as me, did our decades of EVH fanboy worship and are now over it.

I dunno... them stripey things are cool...
I don't see enough to justify the extra over the strathead stripey one I already have though.

I personally always think of the EVH guitars as the old striped Strat style guitars. I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in the Wolfgang body shape from any era whether current or older Peavey or EBMM Nice to see EVH producing the 5150 style guitar, the Strat heads still look cooler though.

Yup. In my world, where aesthetics are equally important to quality, features and playability, the newer EVH designs don't measure up. They're presumably quality axes in every other aspect but fall short IMHO of the original look and mojo his Strat shapes had.
