If you had to get a Les Paul

I have heard/read not good things about Gibson quality as of lately.

If I believed everything I read online I would have given up and not bought any guitars or amps or pedals or pickups...

I have 7 Les Pauls from 1956 to 2012. Norlin with a Maple neck, CR8 with a chambered body. They are all good. I'm only going to be on this world once so I'm going to go with what makes me happy. Do the same.
