Re: Is the Seymour Duncan Invader a good pickup for 80\'s metal?
Chris is right. The Invader has alot of chunk and distorts on clean settings. You could almost use it as a mic. My Fender Tom Delong Strat that I ordered has one. I got it on purpose for the chunk. I think they sound good on drop tuned guitars and this mainstream punk stuff like Blink 182, Sum 41 and Powerman 5000. For 80's metal, the Duncan Distortion rocks. With a good rig you can get EMG 81 like tones out of it. All the others mentioned above will do the trick. The JB is a killer pickup, but I'm partial to the Distortion myself. I wouldn't recomend the Invader as an all out all around 80's metal pickup.
