• Interesting Sandoval Story

I was at my guitar setup guys shop today getting some adjustments to my Widow. We started to talk about old and rare guitars...and talked about a Sandoval V.

Anyways, this 1983 Sandoval was at Guitar Showcase in San Jose for $5k. Apparently when they first got it in (it might have been a trade), Showcase didn't know what it was and had it priced at $1500. My setup guy's friend walks in, starts playing it, and he's all "WOW...you have a SANDOVAL for ONLY $1500!!! WOW...that is SOO cheap!!!" He said he'd be back in a few days to pick it up. Meanwhile, Showcase did some investigating, called Karl...and raised the price to $5k. Some people should just keep quiet

Oh man, that really sucks on Guitar Showcase's part!! I would have been really pissed, but then I probably would have put whatever money I had at the time down on it to hold it. If I wanted it that bad, I would have done whatever was necessary to secure it right then. I wouldn't bet money that it would have been there in a day or two... As recognizable as that guitar is, it wouldn't have lasted long. I'm surprised a guitar store didn't know what it was . I have a friend who had Karl Sandoval build him one and he LOVES it. He was getting pretty frustrated toward the end because it took around a year and a half to get it but I don't think he's put it down since it hit his door!!!

I first saw it in San Jose probably about 3-5 years ago and it was $5000. I asked about it last year and a sales guy told me 2 different people bought it and returned it cuz they couldn't afford it. It was sold again in recent months...we'll see if it comes back again...
