Re: FOUND MY DREAM GUITAR, JASON BECKER!!!

Jeez, when I was 14, I was buying my own Kingston's, a Univox Paul, and a Musicmaster before landing a couple SG's. Paper route, dishwashing (and I washed alot of dishes to get my get '64)
I'm happy your mom supports you.. you'll need that to get to where you want to go in this, but many of us didn't get that. I had some support, but my parents understanding of love for music and work don't coincide, they are as opposite as the front and obverse faces of a coin. Rock n roll to them is still something they'll never understand... and at times.. I'm not sure if I do either but thanks for the info on the Carvins. BTW, I'm not even gonna ask how you know that Funerals signature was from the un-bible... but that is pretty scary for a kid of 14.

I remember an interview where Becker dogged the Carvin.
Said he like the Hurricane better than the Carvin.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Dude.. it's over. Lay off him.

As for the guitar.. I will sadly same something has come up.. can't buy the guitar. It's not my time for this guitar, I guess.

What happened was.. that I couldn't sell these guitars quick enough for this guy. I wouldn't be able to get JACK for these guitars at Music Go Round.. already tried. Same for the other stores. The guy won't wait long enough for me to sell all 3, and also I noticed something. Jason's Carvin was shaped SLIGHTLY differently. Guess it's just not my time yet.. oh well. I do, however, have a possible trade for an EB/MM JP.. so we'll see how that goes.

What purpose did your comment serve other than to irk some people and revive something that was already dead?. Good work dooode...

I think Pat hit a sensitive spot with Word, and Word went a bit too in depth himself explaining the situation.

I don't think Pat (or anyone else) cared to hear all that. Pat was just busting Words bells a bit over the sudden acquisition of several pieces and his expensive tastes. Sorta understandable considering Word is not exactly employed...

Actually, I didn't even read that long speel that Word posted. Cleve, you're 100% correct in your thinking of what I was thinking, exactly, no harm, no foul, IMO. It's all good...

Thought he may have invented the next Microsoft or something for others to think about and inspire...

My mother has always said I'm too expensive. I was doing the same thing when I was 6. When everyone else was ordering a hamburger.. I was always the one ordering the expensive Lobster dinner with a slice of coconut pineapple cake. mmmm.........

Re: FOUND MY DREAM GUITAR, JASON BECKER!!!

There are a couple of different Carvin models in those pictures, Word, which one was close to the one you were looking at?

Personally, I would go for the DC200 if you get a chance (the blue one that JB is pictured with). The other Carvin with the maple fretboard appears to be a DC127 from at least 1992. The 127 did not exist when that blue DC200 was made. Carvin, of course, has a few basic models that can be optioned out a to ridiculous extent. During their pointy era (1988-91), the basic models were:

DC125--one humbucker, dots, passive. You see a fair number of these optioned up to dual humbuckers, which was eventually turned into the distinct DC127 model.

DC135--H/S/S, otherwise identical to DC125. This was an on-again off-again model during the pointy era, I'm not sure of the exact timing. At other times, the H/S/S configuration was just another DC125 option.

DC145--H/S/H, dots, rounded Strat body, reverse headstock. This was the model endorsed by Jon Butcher. I own one of these now--great guitar. I could swear I've seen a picture of JB with one, as well, but that could have been a DC125 with dual hums and the rounded body sides, which were a $20 option on the other DC guitars. I prefer the rounded sides to the traditional pointy Carvin style.

DC200--two hums, MOP blocks, active electronics. The model that JB is pictured with in that one that is posted. This was the original Carvin DC 'strat' from back around 1981 or so, but those were somewhat different in the pre-pointy era. Many of the older DC200's had koa bodies and are absolutely stunning.

DC400--Like the DC200 but with flame maple top and abalone inlays. Stunning guitar. But not very "metal", I guess.

There were also the DC150 and 160, but these had the Les-Paul Junior body shape and are a different line, really. The DC160 was a real pimp job with the gold hardware and the flame top/abalone inlay combo.

By the way, I think that $650 is WAY too much for a used Carvin of that vintage, except maybe for the SH-225 semihollow guitar, which is quite rare. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $400 for a DC, maybe $450 if it's a DC400 with a really nice flamed top.

Word, stick with what ya got. Steve Vai once said "when you reach facility on the instrument you can play any guitar and amp and sound good. You can work with whatever you have". The Carvin will come around again. Be patient. Don't make the same mistakes I'm sure many of us have made in the past. You know, that one that got away? I'm still crying over my Custom BC Rich Warlock I let go. I thought BC Rich was out of business after Classaxe. Boy was I wrong. BC Rich was still honoring warranties. Damn me! Dammmmmn me!

Word,

You may want to consider selling the guitars you've deemed expendable and putting the money into a GAS Opportunity Fund. You'd probably get your $ back on
the Jacksons right here, or you could do Ebay if you want to max your gain on them.

If you have $ and keep your eyes open, when the killer deal pops up you can jump
on it right away, and not have to sell guitars for low $ to free up the cash. I
know music stores will give you 1/4 to 1/3 what a guitar's worth, because they want to make a big profit. That's only a
little better than a pawnshop pays.

From what little I can gather from your posts, I'd say sell everything but your Jem, then lie in wait for the Becker Carvin, or for a kill deal on the JP.

You probably already know this, but you'd
flat be amazed at what you'll find in the
local pawn shops. I bought my old Model 6 at a pawnshop for $125! It was the height of Unpopularity for Pointys and was not even on the wall, but behind the counter leaning against the wall. Had to sell it when I moved though...still bummed about that...

Anyway, best of luck acquiring either of your dream guitars!

I found this one in an old Carvin catalogue - '92 I think.
How cool is that?
