I don't know exact model numbers but in the early to mid 90s Ibanez did produce a set neck Iceman in addition to the Paul Stanley Iceman PS10 which was also a set neck model.

I have a 1983 Ibanez Destroyer and 1982 Ibanez Rocket Roll. Both set neck, body/neck binding, 24.75 scale. They play like a dream. Awesome necks, lots of clarity and sustain. I'd like an Iceman myself of the set neck variety but have been too lazy to pick one up. I've seen some of the 90s versions w/set neck on ebay from time to time and they seem to sell in the 400-600 range.

The early 80s sunburst IC400 is very rare but very cool. Here's a scan of the catalog page:

I AM THE ICEMAN KING!! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] I've been collecting Iceman guitars for about 10 years now, and have way more than I care to speak out loud! The model you saw in the video was more than likely an original IC300. They had the set necks with binding, the IC400s had the set neck with block inlays. They did make a bolt on IC300 model in the 70s that had a painted neck, and the quality of those is still head and shoulders above those crummy 90s reissues with the raw necks. I bought one of those when they first came out just to add to my collection, and it was such a piece of garbage (even at serial #00097) that I gave it away. Any set neck Iceman you can find on Ebay is a guaranteed @sskicker! They made 'em well back then. The most coveted Iceman models are the ones that were the Iceman body shape, but were still called the Artist model. In 10 years of scouring the Earth, I've only been able to find 3 of them. But as long as you don't buy those raw neck kindling logs, you can't go wrong with an Iceman!

Thanks, Subvamp. I was just searching around and saw these newer IC300 models in the MF catalog. These are Korean made, I think, with the All-Access Neck Joint. Are these the crappy ones you're talking about, or are there others? Something tells me I should probably avoid this.

Yeah, the IC500s are nice looking with the abalone and pearloid binding, but I agree that it's hard to get the right pickup in them. Those were only made in 97, so I don't play that one much. The other (earlier) Icemans from the 70s and 80s where mahogany. Toejam, I agree with Sully that you should check one of the newer ones out for yourself, but I'm telling ya, the only thing "Iceman" about them is the body shape. I'd save my money on those raw neck models and just check Ebay. Even a beat up bolt-on from the 80s will be head and shoulders over a brand new IC300. Just my opinon though. joe, if you can find one of the ic500s, you'd make out nicely. they don't sound BAD at all, i just gotta find the right pu for it. i started with a 59 in the bridge, and it was too thin, went to a distortion, and that was WAY better, but still not there. i'm hopin the jb will do the trick. i wish they woulda put block inlays instead of dots, but whatcha gonna do?

subvamp, you're clearly knowledgeable on these; were the 500s a limited run or somethng? the guy i bought it from said so, but that coulda been salesman garbage. looks cool as hell, tho. certainly the only ibanez i've ever liked visually, or would ever own.

I played one at Daddy's Junky Music one time. I also played another one at Earcraft. There's really no describing the feeling without the word "weird" to me lol. It just has this strange balance to it, where it wants to divebomb, but it won't, or something like that... The necks on them feel weird as well. I'm not sure what modle i played though.

I have played a current model IC300 that has been in a local shop several times. It's okay for a kid who wants one to look like Darron Malakian of System of a Down, but other than that it's a little on the cheap side as is from the factory. I have played one loaded with DiMarzio pickups and a Tone Pros bridge with locking tuners and upgradded volume and tone pots. This was a 1999 model from what I was told. I played it and thought it sounded killer. I guess if you buy one, replace a few things here and there and you will have a kick @$$ guitar. The other model is a scaled down version. I wouldn't go there. I'm not sure of the model number, but it looks alot dofferent too. I have played one of those and it sucked. Try to find one and play it first if you can. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

i've got an ic500, which is set neck, dot abalone inlays, pearloid binding, with smoke chrome hardware. it smokes like a crackhead that won the lottery...except for the fact that it's basswood, (top heavy) and i'm tryin to find the right pickup for it; it still sounds thin, so i think i'll take the duncan distortion outta there and slap in a jb.

plays great...get one.

I've got a '79 PS10. It's my favorite guitar, no question. The neck is a thinner LP style neck, which I love. It's just a couple of chunks of mahogany and maple with the perfect pickups to compliment it (the Ibanez V2's sound excellent in these things). I still want to add another Iceman to my arsenal that I can gig with (mine's too damned valuable to me for it to be dragged through Deep Ellum clubs), but the late-70's Artist series guitars are pretty expensive.

Yeah, there were only 500 of the IC500s made...they made them in '97 only. I went through the same thing switching pickups, because I was used to the standard mahogany/maple combo instead of the basswood, but I got a great tone out of it with a JB, and also with a Screamin Demon, which is in there now.
