    Has this problem been resolved?

    If not, you may want to check on the string retainer. It may be too high or too low. The strings should be sitting neatly in the nut.

    Oh wait - that would pull them sharp.....

      What happened was ,in fact, the retainer was loose and the spring claw screws were pulling away from the body! All is well now! The neck,at first,looked like someone had tried to sand the finish off (the back),but the more I looked at it the more it looked like years of wear and tear! So I took some coarse scotch bright pad and removed most of the left hand funk!Then I used a finer pad to smooth it out! Smoothest neck ever!Really!I am undecided on tung oil,so for now I'll just have to keep it clean for him! Polished the frets and oiled the fret board....just like new! I think it was Chuckracer who said "shiny fret are cool" and they are! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]
