So I bought one of those new MusicYo Kramer Barettas. IT's a new neck thru model with a fixed bridge. I was hoping it would be a great bargain and a good replacement until I can afford a USA JAckson again. (sold my SL2h a lil bit ago)
Got the guitar as a scratch and dent for 255$. 10 days later I see they have a sale, 199$ for them brand new. I emailed tech support with no response, although when i was buying the unit, they responsed promptly regarding selling it
Anyhow, this was gonna be a project guitar. First off, I put in my Graphtech Piezo system, and got that up and running. IT sounded a lot better on my Basswood/Rosewood IbanezRG421. I then sanded down the neck and tung oiled it. I have pictures, i did a half rate job, but on a budget guitar like this i wasnt overly worried. The wood is protected well by the oil, the only ugly part is the seams where i sanded. My tape I used didnt do a good job and lifted up, so it looks half assed.
I go to set up the guitar again, and i JUST CANT get it right. My other guitars all did fine, but this was has chronic buzzing on two strings(i set the action at 3/32 on all strings at the 24th fret). I played with the truss rod, raised the action high, and it still buzzes like a mofo. I went thru two sets of string sbecause the locking tuners "crimp" the string and they snap at the tuner when turned too much (constant adjustments) I called a tech, and ordered a graphtech nut. IT's gonna cost me 60$ to have the nut installed and filed, and completely set up.
After 2 days of pissing around, im happy to pay it, because I was at my wits end. I tried constant truss and saddle adjustments to no avail. Im REALLY hoping the neck didn't twist or go AWOL on me, so hopefully the tech will have a look at it.
The Pots are poor, the switch ALREADY has a short in it, and the lil string thru holders on the bottom of the guit keep falling out. It's a cheap guitar and damn do I miss my Jackson. Hopefully the tech can sort things out and make this guitar the player I was hoping it would be!
I learned a lesson though, you definately do get what you pay for. I have pictures to post, but nowhere to host em, although im sure most of you dont really care to see it.
TO make things worse, I just ordered a new PODxt to replace my Sansamp PSA-1, and I cant play with it until my nut arrives and te tech fixes her up!
