• KINDA IMPORTANT HAMER QUESTION...

As I remember. there is AT LEAST ONE of y'all that is BIG on Hamers...My question is THIS...Strat shaped...H-S-S...SET neck...Floyd Rose equipped...and the KICKER is THIS...

I BELIEVE it has an EBONY fretboard...But FOR SURE it has the REAL Mother-Of-Pearl BOOMERANG SHAPED inlays...

Does ANYONE have a CLUE WHAT MODEL and YEAR it is { am THINKING it's a Californian}, and is it USA or an import ??

ANYONE...a QUICK ANSWER would be HIGHLY APPRECIATED at [email protected], and THANKS AHEAD of time !!!

The Californian has 27 frets as far as I am aware, otherwise it's a Chapparal(I think..)
Ebony/Pearl says US. Imports are marked "Slammer Series" Granted, this is all off the top of my head 'cos I'm at work!

Does it by any chance have a body that is shaped kinda-in-a-way like a Fender Jazz bass (not round butted like a Strat, but kinda sloped)?? If so, it's a GT. If it says Glenn Tipton on the head, it's mine

A Centuara also had H/S/S. I can't think of any others offhand right now.
If it's made in USA, it will say USA on the headstock, in very small letters, right after the R. The Californian has 27 frets and is H/S, I don't think they made them with H/S/S. The new import Californians have 24 frets and are H/H or H/S/H. Also, the newer imports are no longer designated as Slammers, they just have a smaller Hamer logo and, of course, don't say USA on them.

What are the neck thru Stratish style Hamers called? I played one a while back, and I'm almost positive it was neck thru.. but then again I could have been hallucinating!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Actually, some Californians were set neck, as well as the double-neck Californians. As for the Centaura, you're right, set neck, but the standard had offset dot inlays with Duncan pups, the deluxe model had two boomerang inlays (3rd fret and 12th fret) with offset dots on the other frets with EMG pups.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I can't recall if Hamer made any neck-thru models. They're known mostly for set-neck or bolt-on. The Hamer Strat with pickguard and three single-coil pups was the Vintage S. It had a bolt-on neck, pau ferro fretboard. And I believe the T-62 was similar with no pickguard, if I remember correctly. They also made a Daytona with three single coils and pickguard, maple board. And the T-51 was a Tele shape with maple board.

it's a chapparal...color on headstock should match body...the majority of californians and centauras were bolt-ons...d.m.d.m.

Re: KINDA IMPORTANT HAMER QUESTION...

Here's some info of the Chaparral I found on the Hamer Fan Club index.

"Chaparral (1st version) (1985 - 1987) - contoured body with offset double cutaways, glued-in maple neck (24.75 inch scale length) with 24 fret rosewood fingerboard, dot-inlays and steeply angled peghead. Fitted with a humbucker and two single-coil pickups (usually Hamer Slammers) and Floyd Rose trem.. Some guitars are fitted with Kahler trems.. The Chaparral Custom is as above but has an ebony fingerboard, boomerang inlays and upgraded pickups (usually OBL). Usually fitted with three mini-switches and front mounted output jack.

Chaparral (2nd version) (1987 - 1994) - the Standard version is as above but has a bolt-on neck (with a modified peghead) and a 25.5" inch scale length. The Elite has optional figured maple- top, ebony fingerboard, boomerang inlays and upgraded pickups. The Custom is essentially the same as the 1st version but has a 25.5 inch scale-length. Also sometimes fitted with Sustainiac circuitry (circa 1990 only). All are fitted with 5-way switch and side mounted output jack. Single humbucker versions are also seen. 12-string Chaparral has a glued-in neck."

I beleive the Set-Neck Chapparel with Ebony and Boomers is the Chapparel Elite/Custom, very nice and they have the short scale length. So if you like Jackson Fusions with a little thicker/rounded neck, you will love this guitar, I have been looking for one in the right color Also, it should have USA next to the Hamer logo and the Serial # should be embossed in the wood on the back of the headstock. Early versions had the locking nut bolts thru the neck and the latter ones not thru the neck. Jack.
