  • Larrivee Neck-thru Custom Soloist Style Electrics

Anybody know anything about Larrivee handmade electric guitars? Larrivee is well-known for high dollar handmade acoustic guitars but built approx. 1200 electric guitars in the 80's, mostly basses.

I found a neck-thru Soloist-style Larrivee electric today that was just killer. It has 22 frets, an original Floyd, ebony board, Schaller tuners, and a S/S/H pickup configuration. The neck is thin and killer. The body looks very close to a neck-thru Kramer Paul Dean model. This one is pearl white w/ black hardware.

Anybody have any info on these?

I didn't know they made electric guitars either until I was searching the reviews on Harmony Central awhile back. Here's one... not sure if it's the exact same model as the one you saw, though.

Hey Greg they are great guitars and they hold [quaility] well over the years as well , I wish he still made em [electrics] I know they stoped making em some time in the early 90's I think or the late 80's , they make only accostix guitars now and won't touch the electric stuff [unless a employee builds one] I almost had a job at the factory in BC here when I lived down on the coast but he was only gonna pay me 8 bucks a hour and I would have had to drive 45mins to work every day so with gas and stuff it wasn't worth it , would have been a cool job though if I would have taken it - Jumbo frets , dressing by SB - lol !!! //Steve

I gots me one of those, but mine is a custom jobby. They actually made about 8000 electrics with their own names and other peoples names, but most of that 8000 were bolton cheapos......

OK, here's mine. It's very similar to Accept2's but mine has a factory Original Floyd. I gave Larrivee a call, gave them my serial number 7170 and they were able to tell me that it was an RS-4 model(R=neck-thru, S=Strat, 4= S/S/H). They said it was completed on Feb. 5, 1988.

I've got it all setup now and it plays wonderfully!!! It reminds me a LOT of a 1986 Kramer neck-thru Stagemaster but with a slightly thinner neck. I love the 1 5/8" Floyd nut. The fretwork and factory setup is amazing! I'm a big stickler for Floyd nut height and this thing is perfectly low. The frets are on the small/medium side with top notch fretwork. I'm very, very impressed. This guitar reminds me very much of a Jackson Soloist but skinnier in terms of nut width.

very hard to find, should sound great...lemme know if you run across another, i spoke with the people at larrivee about a year ago and they're thinking of doing electrics again but they'll be more like a prs than a jackson...nice people, great acoustics too...d.m.

                          According to a Larrivee website:

"We built everything with the same scale length, which was a somewhat eccentric 25 5/8".

Ya got a hot deal Greg! [img]graemlins/headbang.gif[/img] Like Jackson they have a very nice feel and they were always consistent. Thompson guitars were another Canadian made guitar co that went strictly acoustic. I asked Ted Thompson why once (He lives here in Vernon) and he said he just can't keep up with his acoustic orders. I think the same was happening with Larrivee, just wasn't worth it to make electrics at the time they stopped. Thompson was very Jackson like as well.

Both guitars were very Jackson like. Probably due to the fact that Jackson was "THEE" guitar company when they got into the game. As a matter of fact (as some of you already know) Larrivee was who picked up the production of that fugly but well made Niel schon guitar.

I know you are fond of Kramer’s but I never played a Kramer that came close to a Larrivee IMO
