• My New GMW....

    Hey all,

Just received my new GMW. Lee was really cool and swapped in an EMG 85 at no extra cost. All I can say is that this guitar smokes. The neck may be the fastest neck I have every played. I love seeing the Fender headstock on there. I think they captured the San Dimas spirit really well. IT's got a non recessed Floyd as well, so it's time for my first D-Tuna.

Sweet!!! Congrats on that bad boy! And the EMG 85 is an awesome bridge pup, too!

          Re: My New GMW....

          Specs on that GMW:
          Genuine alder Charvel body

Maple 22 fret Charvel neck w/ SkunkStripe

Original Floyd Rose (Routed for Non Recessed)

          1 5/8" nut

          6100 jumbo frets

          EMG 85

Jackson Tuners, knob, anodized metal rear cavity plates and strap buttons.

I was so pleasantly shocked when I first played it today. It felt Like a guitar I've owned for years. I rarely hype companies other than Jackson, but for a change of pace (and killer price) this is really refreshing. I'm allready darfting my next GMW custom piece.

Side Note: I've been putting EMG 85's in the bridge position of my guitars for years. My first "real guitar" was a Gibson Les Paul showcase which had stock EMG's in it. IT was supposed to have an 81 in the bridge and 85 in the neck. Someone at Gibson must have goofed that day, because mine had 2 85's in it. Since then I was hooked. I've put 81's in the bridge on a few of my jacksons, but 85's are my all time favorite.

Did you consider the "scalloped & angled heel" option? GMW recommended it to me and said all of the Empire guitars have it. I'm not sure what it is like, so I'm not sure if I want it on mine.

Backplate for the trem sits on top. Another old school touch.

Okay, how come GMW can do Stratheads and not infringe on any copyrights or anything?

Ask yourself this..Do you find the heel on a Dinky or Fender intrusive? If so, scalloped heel is for you. I guess it would depend on what you are having done as well. I would consider it on BC Rich or something radical, but if you were going for like an old school star, I would stay away with it just to keep the personality consistant.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'm planning on using the same body as on your guitar. One of my guitars is an Anderson which has an angled heel, my other guitars have regular heels. Either way is fine with me, but I wasn't sure about the "scalloped" part. If this means the heel is shaped into the cutaway better this sounds like it might be worth it.

BTW, if you want to post more pics or some sound clips, I don't think anyone would mind

Great looking axe. I ordered my first GMW about a month ago. It should be ready in June or July. I will post pic's when I get it. Congrat's on the guitar.

Sweet guitar! What was the final cost, and what is the case like that is shipped with the GMW guitars?

Final Cost was $1200.. Case is a G & G (same brand that comes with BC RICH American) and is really nice. Overall I couldn't be happier with the entire package.
