• Ran guitars

Has anyone here ever dealt with Ran guitars? I was thinking about getting them to be build me a RR1 copy with 24 frets and no pickguard.

http://www.ranguitars.com/_en/index.htm

How are these guitars compared to Jackson USA's? Are there any other companys like Ran that build fairly cheap customs?

P.S. It has to be a neckthrough.

Thanks

Re: Ran guitars

I sometimes visit a german message board hosted by a music store. The other guitar player of the band of a member there recently bought a ran (first without knowing it, it was used and he played it in the music store and liked it, then bought it)
Today this member posted a review on the message board.
He says that the build quality is very good and it plays fine. The hardware is very good (no wonder because Ran uses Schaller, Emg and so on) But he also told that it's not very flexible and the clean sound isn't good. This guitar is a copy of the flamming skull ESP. It's also quite heavy. After all it's a metal axe.

When this member first posted on the message board a quite big thread developed out of it. Another member who seems to speak polish searched for more info and came across a polish guitar board. Most of the reviews there about ran seemed to be very positive. Only 2 were bad. One of them is from a reviewer of a guitar mag. This one seems to be a very bad review. The reviewer told that the wood of the body wasn't dry (!!!) and it begins to rot (!?!), also the neck wasn't dry and deforms all the time.
First time i ever heard about a guitar not dry and beginning to rot

Well i thought i share this. Besides those two reviews all others seem to be from good to excellent.

Re: Ran guitars

Joel he did post a pic of it:

From what i get there are two skull guitars from ESP. One is the George Lynch Signature Flaming Skull guitar (the ran is a copy of that one) and then there is the screaming skull with the carved guitar body.
I only found a very small and bad pic of the original :

Re: Ran guitars

Joel this guy told in his review that it's a graphic covering most of the body. On the end on the horns where those two bones are it's carved out of the body. The owner of that guitar bought if for 450 Euros which is about $500 (just realised that the $ seems to be above the Euro once again. One month ago the Euro was more worth than the $), quite a good price for a cool guitar.

I tried to submit a Custom order form and it took me to my email, I wonder why it just didn`t submit directly? It left alot of stuff out in my email? Anybody else have this problem? Jack.

Re: Ran guitars

Yeah Flo that's the GL Flaming Skull...the Screaming Skull has been one of my all time dream guitars. I believe both of these guitars had hand carved bodies. Is that guitar just painted with the graphic, or is it carved? My ultimate is the Screaming Skull, string-thru, 1 EMG, 1 Vol, neck-thru, reverse headstock, 24 frets, painted flames up fretboard and headstock!! I'm impressed with that Ran!
I've got a bunch of pics of the Screaming Skulls if the time comes and I decide to get one made. I could stare at those guitars forever...The bodies were made by a guy Jimmy Diresta in 1995...but I haven't been able to find anything out about him.
