Well... it's the first time he has been seen live with a guitar of that shape, as he almost exclusively uses Explorers, so it is surprising. May be an LTD, may be not... I don't think anyone cares, I also don't hear anyone complaining about Tom Araya using the LTD variant of his sig-model.
ESP....LTD....no real big differnece other than the price. Some cheaper componants on the LTD....but, the upgrades to make it a ESP dont verify the overinflated prices for a mass produced, computer generated Certificate of Authenticity.-Lou

After watching the MTV Icon special w/Metallica I noticed James Hetfield was playing a Gibson Explorer and an LTD F series guitar. Did the LTD series take the place of the regular ESP line. Why don't they just put ESP on everything? Same difference. The Gibson Explorer I can understand, but after I've played my share of LTD guitars I can't understand why anyone who could afford a better guitar would even consider playing an LTD. I guess when ESP says "James, we need to push the LTD line a bit, you will be playing a few LTD's on tour and on live tv performances". $$$$$$$$$$$
I just thought it was odd. I figure a multi millionaire would have the best of everything. I have owned an LTD and was not very impressed. I thought James would have ESP on everything and not LTD. I know if I were James I wouldn't sport an LTD on national television.
NewC-Very true. Like I said above, ESP must be pushing the F-series LTD baritone or something.
I dunno...James' main guitar for the past few years has been his Ken Lawrence Explorer...sure he has more ESPs but that one is his main guitar onstage. I don't think he is incredibly loyal to ESP, at least not as loyal as Kirk is.
all the recent pictures and videos ive downloaded lately kirk has been playing a les paul cherry burst mabey ?? or some colour hes not all that loayal if you ask me either plus he has plays a fernades stat and an jackson rr1
It's an old custom Rhoads, but essentially an RR1T with EMG-81 at the bridge and an EMG-H at the neck. He used to use it A LOT but ever since the Black Album it became his 'Sad But True' guitar.
Gibson V 1 HB Black
Gibson V 2 HB Red
Jackson RR Custom
Fernandez Strat with EMG SC's and a Floyd
Ditto of the above
Zion HSS with some kind of weird grey swirl
A few ESP KH2's
Several 60's Fender Strats
Gibson LP Standard Cherry Burst
89 Gibson LP Custom Black
A few Ibanez RG 570's
BC Rich Gunslinger grey snake skin (rare photo of him with it in a studio. May have belonged to Jason Newstead or Lars Ulrich)
ESP V
ESP LP style
ESP M II with pickguard
.............and if I'm missing something, well...........
When I saw Metallica in 89 in El Paso TX during the Justice Tour Kirk played a couple Kramer barettas. Both were black. He gave one of them to a fan in the front row.
Just wanted to see if I'm right you guys. Feel free to correct me or add to the list.
Gibson V with one humbucker was a Fernandes...
His real Gibson V is black....
He has another Fernandes...red with black pickguard, Hum single single, Floyd, Charvel pointy neck....his other Fernandes Strat has a Charvel neck as well....
Zion you have listed is probably his Tom Anderson ProAM.....
That's pretty cool Boxcar. I didn't know about the pointy head V or that the other V was a Fernandez. Cool. I'm almost positive the Zion was a Zion. I had a poster with him playing it and it burned up in a house fire. As a matter of fact Kirk playing a Zion is the only thing that held my interest in Zion guitars. I can almost bet my life on it. If I'm wrong I'm wrong and will admit defeat.
