• 7 string guitars.

Hi guys. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good 7 string guitar. I've seen the Vai Universe, but I don't like the look of it. The conklin guitars start at around $3600 and i don't know if they'd ship to the UK.

So far I've seen the Carvin 7 sting (that Tony MacAlpine plays) as an option and possibly a Jackson like Rusty Cooley's.

If you guys can help out with names prices etc, it would be really appreciated.

Thanks alot friends.

The Schecter C7+ I have plays great. Only set me back about $350 used. There's a TON of Schecter 7's on 'da Bay ATM.
750xl, 88LE, AT1, Roswell Pro, SG-X, 4 others...
Stilletto Duece 1/2 Stack, MkIII Mini-Stack, J-Station, 12 spaces of misc rack stuff, Sonar 4, Event 20/20, misc outboard stuff...

Why do I still want MORE?

I've got 2 of the Carvin DC747's.. Both ran me around $750 with extra features. THE best 7-string for me.

there are some pics of them on my bands website linked below.

Is the price of the guitars in the carvin website like the real price or is it the MSRP? I really like the DC747's. I have an Ibanez RG7420, and it's a keeper for me. I updated the stock pickups (they sounded reallly muddy) and now it sounds awesome. Now they have a new 7 string....rg1517 or something like that, which is basically the same as the 7420 except it says "prestige" on the headstock.

Re: 7 string guitars.

Thank you so much for all your great responses. At the moment it looks like I'm leaning towards a 7 string Carvin, although I'll be sure to check out those groove tool conklins that were mentioned. I bought an Ibanez white JEM about 9 months ago. If the Universe had some different designs then I might have given that one a though as well. As for price range, it would be £500 to maybe £1500 at the most. Actually, that would take me years to get up there, but anything can happen, you know?

The only problem after deciding the make would be the colour, so many choices!!

Thanks again.

Re: 7 string guitars.

there is a difference besides it just saying prestige. the 7421 is the lowest line model they have, i have an rg7ct that is amazing.. but good luck finding one.. only 24 made

I used to have a 7621 which was decent.. put a tone zone 7 in it, made a big difference.

Re: 7 string guitars.

I just love my Carvin DC727.
Great guitar. This is the 5th carvin I've owned.
Still own 4 all together.
They've never let me down.
Great quality and craftsmanship.
Tech support has helped me with any questions or issues I've ever had. I've really become accustomed to dealing direct with a manufacturer.
Going to amusic store and having to deal with floor salesman for gear is really annoying now.

Anyways, Carvin has many options to choose from to make the guitar more to your own personal preference.
Great trial period. 10 days from the day you recieve it. Give it a good workout. If you like it, keep it. If not send it back for a refund. That simple. Beats the 1/2hr you get in a music store to try something out. Plus it's through your own gear, not theirs.

Here's pics of mine.

I love the fact that they are neck thru.
It just feels so solid to me. Plus upper register access is a breeze.

If you have any questions be sure to post over at the Carvin Forum. www.carvin.com
Everyone over there is great and always willing to help answer questions and give insights to their own carvin gear.

Re: 7 string guitars.

yea, there are a few really rare Ibanez 7 stringers out there like yours but they are extremely rare. My 7621 is bone stock. I got it off of Ebay. Brand new old stock 1999 in flawless unplayed condition with the hang tags, warranty card in a mint brand new UV1000 Universe case (you must know how nice they are!!) Set me back $300.00 with free shipping when I did the Buy Now!!! Heck, the guitar alone listed at $999.00 and the case was $169.00. 7 string guitars can really be had for a great price when somebody wants to get rid of one! I talked to Bill Conklin also regarding the Groove Tools guitars. He is a nice guy and I am sure they are fine guitars. They look very comparable to Brian Moore guitars. Re: 7 string guitars.

I'm sure the Carvin 7-strings are great guitars, they make great quality guitars. (For "It's All In My H3ad") their prices stated are actual prices. They only sell direct or through Carvin stores, there is no middleman, so those prices are what you pay.

I just got a Schecter USA custom ordered 7-String with EMG-707 pickups--awesome guitar. I personally don't like their import guitars at all, but was always curious about the USAs, by way of high recommendations I've heard of them. It's all I could have hoped for and more, just an awesome playing and sounding guitar.

Re: 7 string guitars.

The Prestige is the top of the line series made in the Japan factory which is where all the really good Ibanez guitars are made. Ibanez goes like this for 7 strings:
Universe Japan
Prestige Japan
RG7621 Japan
Rg7620 Japan

Everything else is made in either Korea or China and is not even close to the quality of a Carvin 7 string which IMHO is the best in the business regarding neck thru 7 strings. Their website is the price you will actually pay.
I play an RG7621 hardtail with Dimarzio Blaze pickups and a highly modified Schecter A-7 hardtail with Carvin pickups. Schecter makes really nice 7 string import guitars that are part of their Diamond Series. The import Conklin is a nice value too. The USA version is really expensive though. I would suggest for neck thru go Carvin. Either the DC727 or the DC747. For bolt ons I would suggest any Ibanez that is made in Japan. You can tell where it was made by the serial #. Japan manufactured guitars start with F and the next digit is the year.

Re: 7 string guitars.

I've got an Ibanez RG7620 that's really nice. They're discontinued, but they can be found for cheap. I've got two Carvin 6-strings and would also love to get one of their 7s.

Also, Conklin has Korean imports made to their specs called Groove Tools. Bill Conklin himself replied back to me when I had a few questions about them. Of course, I'd love to have a regular Conklin but, as you stated, they're pretty expensive, but the imports seem like really fine instruments and I wouldn't hesitate to get one of them. I think they're around $500 or so, IIRC.
